Well yeah. The comic is the derivative media and we already have all the SW books here.

The Original Series is awesome, much better than the movies. I been watching them sequentially during the last few weeks. I'm up to episode 40 out of 79. It's amazing how many popular media references, the series has spun off.

If you're going to read the comics over the books you might as well just read the wikipedia entry for them.

I've not read many of the Wars/Trek novels, but I liked the first trilogy Timothy Zahn wrote for Star Wars, and I've read all (most) of Peter David's Trek books. His Q stuff was great.
