It's never explicitly explained how the world got so polluted, but since Buy N Large ran everything, it's pretty obvious that they're to blame for the garbage and pollution getting so out of control. They produced so much crap that humanity consumed, and didn't dispose of the waste until was too late.
Again, as Frog said, it's not so much a lesson in anti-consumerism as it is a lesson in responsibility.
I'm glad I was able to sit there and enjoy the movie and not look deeply into my own own soul.

That seems like the opposite of the message of the movie. It's a movie about responsibility, not what big bad ol' companies do to poor innocent ol' people. It doesn't matter who they bought all the crap from, they used it irresponsibly.Quote:
