Most poor people I interact with aren't working 80 hours a week to keep the lights on. They don't work at all.
They collect welfare for as long as they can and then try to get their kid diagnosed with some mental problem so that they can hit the SSI lottery.
anecdotal: my chick has four sisters. Three of them have followed that plan.
The Feds have absolutely no right to do that, but a state could decide that is the best path for its people.Quote:

Most poor people around here don't have 80 work weeks to blame their lack of child rearing. That's the kind of shit you see on made for tv movies.
They have nothing but time on their hands, but for whatever reason will not spend any of it trying to teach or raise their kids.
"It's the school's job, those teachers get so much money." That has been stated around me often, and though I can not say it's the feeling of every poor person in America; it sure seems to be the sentiment of most of Rochester, NY.
Also anecdotal, but I have some personal experience with some of the local schools, and one of the poorest elementary schools has a problem with incredibly dumb kids. Most of these kids do not have any real learning disability, and probably would do quite well in another environment. The problem is that the parents don't give a shit, the kid acts like an animal, and the teachers are too busy trying to get these kids to behave that they aren't learning a damn thing.
So are poor people stupid, shitty people? Not necessarily, but I would argue that shitty people tend to end up being poor due to shitty decisions, and pass their behavior on to shitty kids.
The worst part about this is the kids who actually want to learn are stuck, and have to learn on their own if they want to get anywhere. I know a little something about this.
Well, that's the problem right? Rich people don't say that. Hell even a lot of middle class people don't say that. My parents instilled in me a respect for education and achievement. If they didn't... I wouldn't have gone beyond what they did.Quote:

Obviously strong parental involvement is a big help. Doubtful that focusing too much on parental involvement to the detriment of those who do not have good parents is a good idea. You don't have to be rich to be a decent parent. That's just silly.
You just have to have some small amount of (oh, no!) morals and ethics.
and yet the birth rate among those who scam government cheese is greater than those who don't. So what is the answer to solving it? I'm sorry, but I think it has been proven that just throwing money at it isn't it.
