We will pay for this one way of the other. That is inevitable. The current proposal is presumably the lesser of two evils and it attempts to set a bottom while the alternative of doing nothing could lead to what many seem to fear is a bottomless pit. That fear, the lack of confidence, is what has fueled the relentless cascading of the markets.
But people will profit. Buffett just put $5 billion into Goldman Sachs. I like that. Berkshire will probably buy pieces of AIG as well. You just have to have the ability to ride this out, realizing it will take years. The markets can remain irrational longer than most can stay solvent.
