Squall is righta bout one thing, you are technically leasing your books on the Kindle.
However having things on your computer is an advantage for Sony, anyone who is at a computer fairly regularly I believe should be fine with that, old people who don't own computers I generally steer towards the Nook.

I would really like something that reads PDFs and had no internet access. I really don't read a lot of fiction. I read a lot of technical stuff. And for me to get the most out of it I have to be away from anything that is distracting. I have probably 10 gigs of electronics books that I could read to help me with my profession but I never get around to it because they compete with everything else on the computer. I still get the most out of my printed text books. And it is only because I can take the text book, leave everything else behind and just read it. No distractions, just me and the book.
on a slightly unrelated note, I'd like to get a huge touch screen monitor that reads SD cards. I'd love to have that in a work space for pulling up blue prints and tech manuals. Think Iron Man but no lazor space science.
If you want something that reads PDFs and has no internet, then the Sony E Reader Touch is right for you. You can still write on it (About a half a second delay maybe less) and do whatever and still read technical stuff. But yeah it's only a 6 inch screen so you'll spend a lot of time zoomed in if you were reading a schematic.
