making animated game sprites

anyone got any advice on doing this? I want to take those sprite sheets that are all over the internet and make animated sprites from them (gifs).

I haven't had much luck so far. Anyone got any advice?

Isn't it you just take each picture, and put it in a frame, then go to the next picture? I mean even flash would work for this.

Timing's important, too. I'm sure there's some tutorials out there.

Not really. Certain frames hold longer than others. Most old games aren't animated on "1s".

Anyway, it's pretty specific to whatever action you're trying to depict.

Honestly, the trick with these is to look at the source material for countless hours while building your gif.

ex: When messing with the Phoenix Wright sprite sheet, I had to constantly look at the animations in game to see how the pauses between frames worked with parts of the animation(how long does a characters eyes stay closed, etc).

Now, there's a 99.9% chance that you'll never get the timing exactly - and that's FINE. Just try to get it as close as you can, while using your own interpretation for the delay. A one or two millisecond delay between frames can really bring about a huge difference in the overall presentation.

ps: I'll be at work until about 5-6pm PST, so buzz me after that on aim or msn and I'll walk you through the process if you're still having problems. It's fairly easy, albeit full of trial and error at first.

Ok, about 5 minutes messing with Photoshop to line up the frames, and another 2-3 minutes dickin around in my gif editing program.
