It wouldn't surprise me if Thomas just asked to be released outright, instead of having to occassionally sit for the season like yesterday, and the team gave him that.
Either way, I don't have a problem with the move, Big Hurt wasn't getting it done except for two games or so so far.
A team that has any aspirations of contending does not drop its most productive hitter the previous year three weeks into the new season.

Despite losing today, Arizona is rolling. Hopefully their youth won't let them down as the season progresses, as they're a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Webb + Haren is probably the best 1-2 SP duo in the NL, and they've got a lot of balance in their lineup.
