That was Girardi.
The Rangers passed up I don't know how many chances to shoot in this game, too. And Rosival played his worst game as a Rangers - and not just because of the Penalties.

And the commentators on NBC said he was playing great. Oh well, at least the Wings are going to win it all.
Duguay just said it best:
"In the playoffs I want to see two teams beat each other 5 on 5 and I don't want to see a lot of power plays."
In the regular season and the playoffs, in particular, the teams should be allowed to play and these ticky-tacky tug calls are just BS - particularly when they put the whistles away in the 3rd period (which they clearly did in this game, too). As Jiggs said, the irony of the idiocy cost the Rangers the game. After 3 periods of brutal playoff hockey, it's got to take an awful lot of whatever gas you have left in the tank to kill off a 4 minute PP against a team like Pittsburgh.
I hope they address the officiating next year. Teams shouldn't lose because they take penalties that are called in the 1st and 2nd and ignored in the 3rd.
Rangers D is almost as bad as the power play.
Duguay is correct. And boy was I shouting that from the rooftops all year, not just in the playoffs: this ticky tack shit has got to stop, ESPECIALLY in the playoffs.
I'm picking the Flyers.
your heart is in the right place but there's no way in hell they'll address officiating. they seem to think for whatever reason that stopping the flow of a game to call a penalty and hand out power plays is good for the league because "scoring is down". when you have to take a man off the ice to get more goals (and i would even argue it hasen't helped scoring much) there's a much BIGGER problem than what they're addressing. here's my take on it.
-goalie pads. they half ass this rule all the time. make it for LENGTH and WIDTH. it makes me sick when you have guys like Giguere and Lundvquist that have an unfair advantage for being 7 foot tall monsters. they can go down to the ice more than usual and play the odds with the leg pads that go over the knees by two feet. when they're down there they can cover post to post pretty well taking away low. then they have these new chest sets that make them look like bricks up top taking away most of the high area. there is no longer a penalty to dropping low all the time for the big guys. i'm an advocate of skill over size. not saying Haohs goalie is lacking in that department but his leg pads are pretty bad.
-blocking shots. this ones pretty self explanatory. most everybody is fearless in this age and will go down in front of shots when we wouldn't have seen this much blocking even 10 years ago. this means it's much more difficult to "set up" a powerplay. if you can't even set one up, why hand out 12+ a game?
-no hitting pretty boys "rule". this is also self explanatory. i don't care if you're a star or not. everyone should be fair game.
-calling a penalty with a dive. WTF? seriously. if it's a dive it's an embelishment. to me, embellishing means no initial penalty. this goes hand and hand with hooking calls. unless somebody gets dragged down blatantly it's not a hook. fuck this "i just got touched with a stick, i'll go down" bullshit.
i'll think of more later but i honestly think calling tons of penalties isn't the way to change our league.
keep in mind my goalie comments refer to much more than just the two guys i mentioned.
Go Flyers!....I guess.
I'm pulling for San Jose and Philly.
