So after lying in an odd sort of limbo where they had no staff and no output for years, it seems Interplay is back and actively hiring. They're planning sequels to Descent, EWJ, Baldur's Gate and more. Very unexpected turn of events:

Interplay announced it is restarting its in-house development studio. The money to establish that studio will come from the recent sale of the Fallout franchise to Bethesda Softworks.
I recall last year Brian Fargo talking about reviving Wasteland since he got the rights from EA. I wonder if he will be back at Interplay or if it will happen elsewhere.
Fargo is still at InXile, so any Wasteland revival (hopefully not similar to the Bard's Tale revival that I liked and nobody else did) will probably happen there.
Come to think of it, who the heck is running Interplay at this point?

Baldurs Gate without Bioware doesn't interest me.
A new Descent could be cool, and I'll get a new EWJ if Tommy is involved.

I really did like Interplay as a publisher, but a lot of their success stemmed from their close relationships with a lot of ace developers, many of which no longer exist, so I'm not sure if this new Interplay would really be the same thing.

Didn't Interplay publish Sacrifice? I think I still have that CD floating around.
They did. Sacrifice was an awesome game.
I remember that the engine for that game was supposed to scale to your system automatically, even to graphic cards that weren't created yet. Wonder what it looks like now.
I tried it like 6 months ago. Models are nice and detailed, but otherwise it still looks like a game from 2000 or whenever.

Descent was the only game I ever played that actually disoriented me and gave me a bit of motion sickness.
I still loved it though.

I don't recall that, but maybe. They did sell Atari handheld rights to EWJ, but it was apparently a limited license. Fallout, on the other hand, was a total sale to Bethesda and they'll actually have to to license it back from them to make this MMO.

Doug TenNapel is a very talented, creative guy who has made some very cool characters, games, and graphic novels.
On the other hand, he's a religious zealot. He spouts out all sorts of hate-filled drivel on his message board all the time, mostly against gays and non-Catholics.
He's like the Mel Gibson of videogames.
I don't think his stance on abortion is going to come through in his earthworm game sequel.
BUT MAYBE IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF IT DID.
