It's a scrolling shooter for one or two players. One of the ships is red and one of the ships is blue. There are a three different weapons. It had a sequel later a few years later, but not really. The US version and the Japanese version had very different gameplay.

I was thinking Gradius, which is often mentioned as the sequel to Lifeforce. I didn't know there was a Salamander 2.
