Whoops missed one
Wasn't some of that art in the manual for Zelda II?

Coolest Zelda art ever. This guy draws some nice tits, too. Not in that particular one though.
That stuff is so fantastic. Im pretty sure that guy's artwork used to be all thru the old Nintendo Powers. I remember being a kid playing NES with those graphics, alot of it I would imagine how the characters and enviroments looked. Having pictures like that in the manual and NP's certainly helped form those images. Remember the awesome master sword forest hand drawn art?
Having an imagination actually meant something back then with games. Nowadays its all done for you. Kids these days are missing out on that aspect with these newer games. Ah, I miss those days... :(
I remember a lot of this classic art from years ago. It's very nice seeing it again after all this time.
somebody should find the original commercial.
"Zelda......Zelda.......ZELLLLLLLLDAAAAAAAA"
"which, way....to go?"
God I wish the Zeldas today looked like that in motion. Also that the current character designer would die in a fire.
I always wanted a Zelda game with the original artwork from the instruction manual from the original Legend of Zelda. That'd be nifty.
That art style + a huge contiguous open overworld (like Shadow of the Colossus, but populated) = what Zelda should be imo.
Those original pictures had charm. That charm is missing now.
I agree with every single post above here.
Wow I would love a game to look like that. It wouldn't be "accessible to the masses" though, so Nintendo would never take a risk on it now.
Glad guys liked it. I'll post more like this?
Yes you will.
kid thief toby was always my favorite character....
am i too far in the archives?
What?

But let me guess, you like OoT, with it's hermaphroditic manfairies and repulsive naked Zora children?
Try not to post a horribly squished piece of art to illustrate your point that it doesn't suck by comparison to the old stuff, kthx.
Nice thread, MarsKitten. Those pics are awesome, I remember seeing 'em in Nintendo Power and the old manuals. Great art.
The coloring style reminds me of European comics.

I rest my case.
Oh wait, no I don't.

That creepy ass baby was actually my favorite character from Twilight princess. And Midna.
Thanks for this thread.
And to agree with Vasteel, Midna's awesome. One of my favorite characters in a Zelda game.
someone brought this stuff up to me recently. i remember trying to copy this artwork as a kid. i love the one of him throwing the heavy ball at the pillar. he looks like a pathetic weakling. the artist also did this bad ass monkey king comic in recent years.

I would play a Don Bluth animated Zelda game based on the old style. And I would love the shit out of it.
Fuck, Don Bluth does need to handle a Zelda project. I would like a DB Zelda movie way more than a live action one, when/if one ever for real happens.
Also, Agitha is easily the best character from TP. She loved bugs way too much.
Advertising did not sell Zelda back then. Zelda sold Zelda. They could have had sock puppets in that ad.
How is it that you look less gay in your avatar now that you've got one with bright neon colors? Amazing!
Distracts from the goatee, IMO.
What I'm saying, is that word of mouth did more for NES stuff than anything.
That gold cartridge probably boosted sales immensely as well.
Your avatar reminds me of David Carradine from "Death Race 2000"

just a little bit...
