Lots and lots and lots of CG.
And wtf does "It's a genre that has arrived" mean?
I'm interested to see how this deviates from the original, which is likely my favorite animated film.
Aramaki better either be played by or dubbed over by his English VA.
Near future cyberpunk has arrived? Fuck it arrived 20 years ago. Trainwreck, but will see it anyway. I love Shiro's stuff.
Blarg. It's probably going to suck like Aeon Flux.
I'm pretty skeptical, but if done right this could really be good.
It's just hyperbole for Hollywood pushing 3D filmmaking (as in filming with a special multi-lens camera to create a 3D effect using glasses), that should end up in theaters next year. Although a movie like GitS would obviously have tons of digital effects, CG has nothing to do with the 3D technology they're talking about.
I'll wait until I see a trailer. The Anime itself is awsome visualy, but the story...
Am I the only one who thought Ghost in the Shell sucked? Least the series they've been running on Cartoon Network.
The Manga was good. The movie sucked and i didn't like what I've seen of the series much either.
The latest news ...

FUCK!!!!!
With the recent trend of adaptions most "fans" are going to say it sucks, but I like to take the wait and see approach.
I wonder if there will be mad titties.
It will feature that one scene that got cut from the old Dark Horse comic. :tu:
... I don't know what that is.
It's pretty much filthy.
When the look of a film is a major part of its appeal, what is the point of remaking it to look worse?
Girl on girl on girl!
Pretty much what Yeller said.
Hot lesbian sex on a yacht. Had the major, plugging into other chicks, f you get what I mean.
"Intron Depot" was a pretty exciting book for a sixteen year old, I must say.
Tank police was pretty awesome for a sixteen year old as well.
"OMG WHAT ARE THOSE WOMEN DOING? THE MOVIE JUST STARTED. WHY AM I SEEING BOOB!"
When I was fifteen, I played La Blue Girl, Wicked City and some crap called Dragon Pink for my 5 year old nephew I babysit. We told him it was new Megazord.
Doc, those were classy. Now Sixteen year olds have to enjoy Bible Black. No wonder kids are fucked up in the head liking tranny porn and shit. HEY LOOK ITS BUTTCHEEKS!
Wicked City was/is pretty terrible. That was anime #2 for me after Ninja Scroll. It mostly just left me confused.
I used to get away with renting all of those violent sleaze fests back when i was 10 because they were "just cartoons". Mad Bull 34, Angel Cop, Genocyber, Devilman, you name it. Then one day my mother saw the rape scene in ninja scroll and decided that that was enough anime for me.
This thread made me put Jin-Roh on my queue.
Man, anime was pretty great back before cartoon network and it was just another supply of weird movies. I remember going to the video store and renting robot carnival and the toxic crusader.
A Philosophy 101 textbook fell open to a random page, GitS Innocence was born.
Anime used to freak me the fuck out. I didn't know what it was, all I knew was that they were these weird super violent cartoons. I used to look at the back of the box art at the video store and back away slowly (Akira, Urotsukidoji, La Blue Girl I remember distinctly.)
My father had this friend, really weird guy. Did a lot of drugs in the day and it left his mind totally fried. I remember running into him at the video store and he tried to convince my dad as to how awesome Urotsukidoji was. I was like... 8 and I rented Blazing Saddles that night!
I was really hoping this was mercifully killed off.
LOL at reacting to a comment that was made before the movie was released.
Also, This movie still sounds like a trainwreck.
Man, I remember renting Urotsukidoji back in the day. I never did get to see all of it. I was at my grandmothers, and well, I guess you can figure the rest out. She didn't catch me, but shit if she didn't keep coming down stairs to talk about crap.
I think a few months later I rented Flesh Gordon and finished it. All I remember is the bad guy being called Darth Bader.
Saw the original in the theaters in '95, one friends girlfriend and another friend fell asleep about 1/2 way through.
Plenty of people are too shallow to get it.
Admittedly, it does move kind of slow. But that director does that with everything he does.
The movie was ok. Just not as good as the manga
Thanks for the confirmation BC. My point is the new Live Action movie is going to be based on the manga and not the anime.
They were both pretty good when you were like, 16. This is a horrible idea for making anything else out of besides maybe some tasteless wall scrolls for a college dorm room.
The movie was animated really nicely, but its plot was pretty mediocre.
I saw these teasers during the commercial breaks of the season 2 Mr Robot finale.
That's a horrible looking wig.
Yeah, what the fuck. Wig technology has advanced quite a bit too, that looks awful.
It's like a real Japanese movie.
I only care about this if they film the boat scene from the comic.
Oh, when he made good stuff and it wasn't all photoshop greased up starvation victims
Goin a little heavy on the skin suit. They must be worried nobody is going to watch it.
Also primary audio fail on the intro to the video. Wah wah.
huh, looks like it will be ok.
The visuals are alright, every single word in the trailer is contrived. ScarJo is overacting the part.
Not sure how I feel about this. It certainly looks like GitS.
Looks like the first movie but sounds like it's made up of new cliche subplots. Why is she now the first of her kind with a mysterious past? I hope it's just shitty trailer editing.
wwwoooooorrrrrrrdddddsssss ooooooofffffffff sssssiiiiillllllllloeeeeeeeennnnnnnnccccccccccccceeeee.
Every. Fucking. Trailer. Now. Pop song at 1/2 speed is the new "in a world where."
Did Gears 1 inaugurate that?
People forget how great the GiTS Score was, they should have just reused that.
First five minutes
I have to go see this.
I think I hate every decision they've made in this. Nice looking cityscape though.
Why are her lips moving when she talks to Batou?
Got a screening pass for this next Wed. I'm still not sure if this will be good but I'll check it out for free.
Looks promising. I hope it turns out well.
One good thing that's already come of this is nice, hardcover, affordable reprints of the comic. I'm finally able to replace that old, oop ~1998 volume I loaned out, never got back, and have been pining for since.

I think I will play my PS1 game instead.
That game was too sweet.
Nice. I had a copy in college that walked off, I may have to re-up.
Good summary of the 5 minute clip:
"It's got it all: Sweeping shot of a set that's 99% greenscreen, characters spouting world-building exposition by talking about technology that isn't new to them, corny digital search scene, protagonist complaining that it'll take too long for backup to arrive so "I'm going in", and an action sequence that might have benefited from some kind of tense buildup if it wasn't in the first five minutes of the movie."
The geishas look great. They are actually doing a ton of practical effects and prop work on this film. I will see it for that stuff.
I don't think Scarlett is skinny or cool enough to play this role, but I struggle to care too deeply about it.
The Geishas look cool. Scarlett not being able to hold a pistol does not.
I want her to hold my pistol.
Black Widow not being able to handle a firearm is a bit odd.
