I'll try to dig up some photo's of the underground tunnels (like something out of an ID Software FPS), like I said the cops absolutely hated that area or even going into it.
But this is one of those places that nearly legitimized the thought process behind hauntings. The 2nd episode of MTV's Fear was filmed there, beyond that (though I'm sure there are more things) every other movie/tv show that needed a place like this used Danvers State Hospital. When the "Session 9" crew came to my construction site back in 2001( to use our asbestos removal equipment, David Caruso totally couldn't breathe in one of the masks), they were in a fight trying to get access to Met State, and had to settle for Danvers instead.
Met State was the real deal though, Danvers was like the decoy so people didn't find out about Met State.
Ha! I saw those pics and immediately thought, that looks like that one set from Session 9.
I've always wanted to go through Centralia, but never found it convenient. Is it safe?
I would also worry about the sheriff arresting me for running a stop sign, thus starting a chain reaction is unfortunate events. But I have lots of irrational, baseless fears, so pay me no mind.
This is the very best thread ever. I intend on taking my two weeks of vacation sometime in the next couple of years and just driving around the country to cool abandoned places. I've been to quite a few, myself. There's a ton of them around Southern California.
The Amusement Park though, that's the one I want to see most.
I see someone's already posted pictures of Chippewa Lake. It looks so rad.
Hey Aurora, out at North Lamar and Yager Lane (pretty near Parmer lane) where that Chinese Temple is now, backed up against Walnut Creek Park, there used to be a gas station/zoo called Coxville Zoo (seriously). It stood there abandoned for years and was creepy cool with a bunch of empty vine covered iron cages and stuff. It burned down in the mid-90's. We used to live up off Parmer, so drove by it all the time when I was a kid.
Man, how did I miss this thread. Great subject.
There were a TON of abandoned buildings in the Savannah area when I was down there, I wish I'd have taken more pictures before the college got to 'em. There was this entire abandoned industrial/warehouse site that had been picked apart by graffiti artists, this has probably been torn down by SCAD and turned into a "Reception Area" by now.
I'll see if I can dig up any photos of it.
