This I can believe. But a first time customer asking for an omission is not going to get thrown out of ANY restaurant.

The bottom line is that if you're at a really nice restaurant, you're an idiot if you're requesting a dish to be changed. The menu is there for a reason. And it doesn't matter who it annoys in the back or how much you're paying.

let's suppose I'm allergic to onions, does that mean I should NEVER go out and eat?

Also, suppose I fucking hate chopped tomatoes, does that mean I should suffer picking them off my pasta because I should be cautious to offend the cook?

Bottom line, this is a market economy, and since my cash is the market and the economy of a restaurant, I'll do order what the fuck I please. Don't want to serve me? Well, fuck you I'll go somewhere that will.

I have been to restaurants all over the world and NOT ONE was pretentious enough to support Icarus. In fact, I hope he owns one someday so it can fail or be sued in two weeks.

The only thing I have ever witnessed is when Peter Luger and his overrated steak joint refused to cook a steak over medium for an oriental couple a few years ago.

Bottom line is YOU don't get it, and neither does the glorified prep cook.

If there's one thing everyone here agreed on, it was that allergens were a separate matter.

And my point is that if you are at a really nice retaurant, the dishes are planned a certain way and to ask for something to be removed instead of moving on to something else where the entire course suits your taste is pretty stupid.
