Hollywood star WESLEY SNIPES will serve three years in jail for tax evasion. In February (08) the Blade actor was convicted of failing to file his taxes for five years.

The star was acquitted of tax fraud and filing a false claim, as well as three misdemeanour counts of wilful failure to file a tax return. But on Thursday (24Apr08) in Florida, U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges sentenced Snipes to three years imprisonment.

Earlier this week (23Apr08), Snipes' famous friends, like actors Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington, sent letters to the judge as character references.

The actor's attorneys argued that Snipes' crimes did not warrant a prison sentence, and that the star should be given probation.

Details of when Snipes will have to surrender to prison, and where he will serve his sentence have not been released.

I was reading that this morning on the paper during my commute to work, what sad about all this is he said that he is in the right for not having to pay taxes, so he joined up with a group for that purpose. Now he goes off saying i was naive and people are attracted to me b/c i have money. WTF...I certainly don't feel bad, he screwed himself by trying to screw the I.R.S.

Wow, Blade's going to prison. Not suprising that he'd do some time, considering how much back taxes he stupidly neglected to pay, but in this day and age of celebs getting slaps on the wrist for breaking the law, it's a change of pace.

Still, I'm sure he'll probably only end up doing 1 year in some cushy place. Shit, if he serves it in California, all he has to do is cry for a few days like Paris Hilton and they'll let him out right away.

It's depressing what Snipes has turned into, what with his money problems and all his movies going straight to DVD now. He's really talented and I was a big fan of his.

BTW, remember he made that movie a few years ago called Undisputed? He was a inmate who was the prison boxing champion. Now he can do that shit for reals.

The jail should give him the prisoner number 57.

I concur, he won't do the 3 years... I don't know why they even bother printing it. He'll be out in a year (maybe less).

This actually shocks me a while back when this was first brought into light his defense was he has people who did his taxes for him while he was away filming and that is why it all had happened. Now I am reading all this other crap...I think he should of stuck with the blame game. On a side note my dog just pooped next to me >< I hate being home.
