I can't really put my finger on it, because Mega Man 3-6 really blend together for me. It just seemed like, with the addition of each new ability they threw into a Mega Man game, the designers had to change the game in other key areas (mostly the level design) to compensate for it.
For example, they added the slide in Mega Man 3. In order to compensate for that, the developers had to create some extremely annoying level design choices. I seem to remember having to slide between spikes and I never cared for sliding between all the bubbles in "Gemini Man's" stage.
Also, I hate to admit it, but I really hated the addition of Rush. I hated having to use Rush Submarine, Rush Car, Rush Hoverboard, or whatever the hell else Rush could do, just to navigate through a stage. There is nothing more annoying that having to use the Rush Submarine and accidentally running out of the "energy" you need to use Rush.
The Mega Man X series is even more ridiculous. The addition of new power ups, which led to odd level design choices, made everything after the original Mega Man X painfully bad.
Just give me Mega Man, with his Mega Buster and the ability to jump...and I'm set with that. Forget all the extra shit that I really don't care about.
I was only talking about it for like three pages there, Dole.
Why aren't we talking about the real MM9 megaton, Splash Woman? This is surely more controversial than shitty graphics.
You Got: Red Tide
That's more like it!
I would actually agree with your opinion here, if it weren't for the fact that I hated Mega Man 3 at the time of its release. I was 10 years old at the time, and still very far from becoming a jaded old bastard. I simply didn't like the little changes they made to the core gameplay at the time, and I still don't like it 16 years later.
