as a wiiware game, would Capcom have used the VC's emu for everything though, or just built it to work without need of emulation?

To which circle of hell are the hypocrites condemned? Is it...the 9th?
No, I think it's the eighth. In any case, I bought this after incessantly talking shit about it in the months leading up to its release. Yeah, Recycled Assets, and yeah, Conceptually Kind of Retarded, but I'm over all of that now. It's really fucking good and I very much like the black hole weapon.
I recently started playing MM6 for the first (serious) time, and the differences in the graphics are quite apparent. I realize that there is 15 year difference between the two games. But I wonder about MM9, with all of its neato graphics and challenge-graphic alert pop-ups, could a real NES actually play it off a cartridge? (assuming it would have a battery back-up for saves and logging successful challenges and obviously the online components would need to be ditched)
I got a chance to DL this on my parent's Wii and give it a go tonight. I get the lag too. Component cables into a Panasonic plasma.
The game rocks hard, but the lag almost kills it. I'm not talking anything more than 0.1 or less of a second, but run n' guns have to be instant. Especially Megaman. Is this a Wii-wide problem or just certain model HDTVs?
Not a problem with the Wii. I would have noticed input lag pretty quickly.
I think I've lost all my 8-Bit gaming skills. This game is kicking my ass.
Galaxy Man's pattern is pretty simple, he's a good one to start with.
I was able to get 24% of the challenges on my first runthrough without really trying.
I got to the last Dr Wily, and he kicked my ass.
Motherfucker.
I played the demo and I couldn't even get past the elephant with the green ball in concrete mans level.
Either games have gotten way too easy, or I suck at games.
I humbly take back all the shit I said earlier, I really didn't think I was going to like this game, but I haven't been able to stop playing it since I got it. I'm currently getting my ass kicked by Jewel Man [wutaqueeramirite]. But yeah it's awesome, so if you haven't play it.
Black Hole Bomb his ass to next week.
Yeah it's not him it's more his level. Black Hole Bomb kicks everythings ass. :p
The Wii can't do 720p and my TV upscales to compensates and I believe that is what causes the lag. If I had bought it on a good system, like the 360, I don't think there would be a problem (I'll test that out in a sec).
Changing my Wii settings to 480i and 4:3 seemed to help, but I can't tell if it's totally gone.
Heck, you could try using composite cables into your TV and I would think that would prove it once and for all.
Anyway, just beat MM9 last night for the first time. Game logged 7.5 hours, though there might actually be one or two more that I just didn't bother saving after... tough stuff, but so awesome, and I think my next playthrough ought to be under 120 minutes, now that I know what weapons hurt what bosses.
I was expecting a second skull on the map, actually, because Wily really isn't as hard as I figured he'd be. The first form is the most confusing; the second, not too bad; the third, if you have an M Tank, you should be golden because it's pretty easy to damage him consistently.
What, by the way, IS the mystery of the M Tank?
Got 26% of the challenges on the first run. Some of those were speed boss fights from the final chamber.
Wii-mote is a little clunky, Classic Control all the way.
I just downloaded this fucker for the 360 and its handing me my ass. I love it.
I'm playing with the analog stick because its the closest I can get to my NES Advantage.
Go to Galaxy Man first. He's a pussy.
He already got his shit dealt with.
His weapon kicks Jew Mans ass but his level keeps Jew'n me out of my lives.
You mean Fancy Man?
Just tried it out on the 360 and it plays perfectly without me fucking with any settings.
The Wii is garbage.
Great, who cares? Now that I know this, I guess the Wii won't look like shit on a TV made within the last 5 years. Thanks.
imo mega buster is the way to go on that oneQuote:
What weapon are you supposed to use on the first Wily level boss? I always just wind up beating it with the pea shooter; nothing else seems to have any particular special effect.
Okay, after playing Castle Crashers and the MM9 and Sam Sho 2 demos I figured I would ask. Are the latter two supposed to be a bit on the soft side? They both look like I'm playing them via composite on an old tube.
I can't speak for SS2 but Megaman is definitely running with some kind of filter. IT'S RETRO, MAN.
I was actually remarking on that last night... how they filtered it to make my fucking $1000 tv look like a 13" bubble tube running a NES via RF connection.
I'm not gonna lie... I kind of like it :O
Go into a room full of enemies while you have full health and full weapon energy. Use the M Tank and see what happens.
I played through Wily's castle today and I finally beat the game. Well, an ass kicking is more like it, I even got the Quick Draw achievement on Wily.
It does look like there's a tiny amount of prescaling with the 360 version. I'm aight with that. I'd love detailed filter options, but, nerd.
And it's weird that you'd have less lag in 480i than 480p, Mzo. I always figured most upscaling lag is caused from deinterlacing.
So I downloaded the 360 trial to see what all the fuss was about.
Graphics were charming but didn't need to be so basic, sound was worse, and one of the first pits I come to has this enemy, that without any indication, comes up from the pit the instant you jump over, knocking you in just a way to fall in and die. A bit later you fight some elephants that shoot big bouncy balls while sucking you around to make sure you really master that whole jumping and moving thing, because, well, that's all your guy can do beside shoot straight forward.
Maybe it's different if you grew up on Mega-Man or something, but that was enough for me. I really dislike trial-and-error and pattern-based gameplay, though, and this title seems to revel in it.
Protoman's out on Wii. Anyone get him yet?
Well sure, on my next run I looked for a way to trigger it before jumping, but my beef was that there was nothing to indicate that the pit was trapped in the normal flow of gameplay. Plus, guys were dropping shit from above in that section, and none of the pits before then (in "clear" areas) were trapped, so it's clear the design was to have you fall for it at least once and start over. If I'm supposed to learn that I should creep up to the edge of every pit in a Mega-Man game, then f that, and if the designers just want to "get" you every once in a while with some trial-and-error hijinks, then f that too.
The Metroid-vania's are more my speed (although strangely, I enjoy traditional CV, but not Mario or Mega-Man). I like Contra all right too...maybe's it's just the starting over when you die thing that irks me.
Why should the traps be clearly marked? They wouldn't be very good traps if they were!
Like I said, play cautiously, you'll never have to fall period. Try to Sonic-The-Hedgehog that bitch, and you'll fail hard.
I kind of hate Metroid-vania's. Why not just play Super Metroid? Been playing 3 a lot lately though, it is a brick house.
i thought things out of pits was a classic megaman thing. i remember it happening in various areas in megaman games.
...so he wants games to be easy cause he sucks?
BTW whats Concrete Mans weakness?
Hot dickings.
L. Trident I believe.
Thinking about getting Protoman tonight if it's out.
By the way, with Jewel Man's weapon you can pretty much just pull a Sonic through that area since it demolishes all those pit traps. But half the fun of Mega Man is figuring out how to do things with just the M Buster and then kicking the levels ass once you have weapons... of course, I realize you're only playing the demo.
(And you don't like traditional Mario??)
Awesome I'm so gonna kick his ass when I get home tonight. :)
At one point they didn't think the world was round either...
You know, I opened a new tab to read the last page just as I posted that. :(
Yeah, I don't know.
Also on the Wii version, my TV likes to up the backlight for bright screens and darken it for darker screens... it's really annoying and not something that happens on the 360 version. I figure it's some crazy dynamic lighting setting that only works on shitty res stuff like regular TV?
Also, in the Wii version when I scroll the screen in 480p it has a tearing effect to it that was fixed when I went down to 480i.
Again, it's perfect on the 360, it was my dumbass fault for buying something on the Wii.
On my TV, it automatically kicks it 480i; I didn't think it was possible to make it do better with the Wii.
and OH HEY LOOK:

DON'T BELIEVE HIM DYNE IT'S SHOPPED.
Uh.... what?!
In any event, Endless mode is AWESOME. You know how fighting games like Tekken will have a Survival mode where you face opponents in a random order? This mode does that with random sections of new stages (and new variations of enemies). Some of these stages remind of parts of classic NES MM games.
It took me a day or two to really to get into it - I played it, thought "this is awesome!" Then I got game over a couple of times and decided to put it down. You have to rediscover your old-school determination to get through something, then you'll start memorizing the patterns and threading your way through the previously tough levels really well. Think of it as a mastery game.
Dr. Wily's stage 3 (i think) had those too. You can't complain about anything until you beat MM1 without cheating.
HEY MZO, MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRADE IN YORE SHIT TV AND YOU CAN PLAY MM9 ON YOUR WII WITHOUT BITCHING ABOUT IT WHILE SOME KID IN CHINA GLUES YOUR NEW XBOX TOGETHER.
I'm pretty sure X3 is the reason seeing an X game makes me vomit. Or maybe that fucking bike stage in Xwhateverthefuck it was. Fuck X. You don't have to play those anymore, i decree it.
Seriously, let's make the hitbox on the guy about a pixel, that's a GREAT IDEA isn't it?
And the bikes were X4 I believe.
Yes.
So do E-Tanks. And that Yashichi thing in MM1.
MM1 doesn't have E-tanks.
Also, Endless Stage is pretty neat.
Hence: "that Yashichi thing in MM1"
I had to look it up, totally forgot it was basically an M-Tank but you use it right away.
nahQuote:
Does the old "pause/unpause" trick to beat the Yellow Devil (rock monster) count as cheating?
I mean, it's a pretty doofy oversight. Just go ahead and kill everything with it.
That's what I did to clear MM1 again recently, lol
but after playing 9 I could probably do it better now.
Endless Mode is awesome. I think I like it more than even the core MM9 game, and that's saying a lot.
Also, what happened to the score attack section board on TNL? It seems to be MIA.
Also, IIRC the Yashichi isn't exactly easy to find and you can't save it for later. If you get to it with everything full already then it does nothing. So I wouldn't say it counts as a "cheat".
That's the way it was with every MegaMan game that had the charge buster, too.
yeah, but you always had your 3-shot. Well, actually I think megaman went down to 2-shot when Rush was on. protoman only gets 2-shot as standard. not good during say, first Wily boss fight.
Here's what i'm thinking of right now.
Enemies: (shooting) Doot doot doot doot.
Megaman: (shoots) Pik pik pik! (gets his with only a bar of life left) <pause> BWOO BWOO BWOO BWOO
Enemies: (keep shooting anyway) Doot doot doot doot.
Doot doot doot doot.
I think the Jewel Barrier is the greatest shield in any MM game, it stays on forever and even deflects bullets back and makes them harm enemies.
It's kind of crazy.
Also, would the b-hole bomb (lol) even be possible on the original NES? It's pretty much the greatest weapon of all time. Sucking up all types of bullets, even from Dr. Wily is all kinds of crazy.
This game is tight as shit, the more you play it the more you realize how well put-together it is. The only really hard thing in the game is beating Dr. Wily stage taking no damage... if you could save in between it might be easier, since it takes forever to clear all the easy shit only to get hit by fucking stupid Magma Man.
Got all the way to Wily last night got my ass kicked by some egg spitting dousche bag an went to sleep got a bunch of M tanks though :).
You can only carry one M tank at a time.
You know what I meant.
HE HACKED THE GAME OH NOES
He probably has a Game Genie.
So I totally and for serious cannot save in the middle of W's castle, right? Without having to restart ALL stages of it?
how stupid is that? I want to play some other games. My 360's been on for like 24 hours now.
Stupid like oh I don't know...
EVERY OTHER MEGA MAN GAME EVER FUCKING MADE.
Are you new to this whole gaming thing?
Those Mega Man games only had the continue option in the first place.
You'd think that they'd make humane use of a save function if they're going to throw a new one in there, but nah. I have no problem restarting a stage when I run out of lives; I have a problem with being allowed to retry something until the end of time but not turn off the game. It blows my mind whenever I see it, and this sure as hell isn't the only place.
so basically you're a loud tard
oh yeah, you're right
I never had to deal with those in MM2 and 3, but yeah, I'm sure they functioned like that.
They did.
Who's the loud tard now?
