Or... am i?
That's because it stopped being 1988 a long time ago.Quote:
Megaman 9 looks like nothing else being produced today.
Man, I'm really pissed! The NES is a kiddy system. Everyone I knew as a kid played it but they'd laugh if they found out you played that thing seriously today. I think it's really upsetting that Capcom decided to go with such a kiddy graphical style. I want explosions, robot parts flying off, more colors, and more stuff happening on screen (like more robots dying and things blowing up!). The new female boss robot's appeal has totally been lost; they're not going to make her sexy with these kiddy graphics. And the audio! I wanna hear Mega Man yell out "shiiiiiiiit!" when he falls into a pit. Can't do that with kiddy NES sound. What a waste of potential.
shut up.
Dude, that's not even comparable to the Megaman 9 situation because:
- Like Frog said, FZ2 is going to be using an engine much more advanced than the original.
- System 16 graphics are way nicer than NES graphics, and this will be only the second game in its series to use the technology level of arcade FZ1, not the seventh.
- It's a remake, not an actual sequel. It's probably going to be more comparable to Metroid: Zero Mission.
- It's a bonus in a compilation that can fully stand on its own without it anyway.
- Fantasy Zone kind of sucks, Mega Man is a lot more fun.
I hope you get cancer under your knuckles.
- Even the same-ish sequels are better.
Drown slowly in your own tears.
-The music in MM2 > the entire Master System library. Not just the music in the library. The entire games.
All of these type of games suck. All.
Damn, YellerDog has managed to invalidate all his opinions on gaming in one thread.
LOL YellerDog. Good show.
I don't know if anything will ever surpass Wily Stage 1 music from MM2 (which I guess is also known as "Okkusenman").
Only if you are a fanboy from Japan. Please don't call it that.
lol
I do like the version of the song sung by the female singer, though.
Fantasy Zone's music is like a cheat code to happiness.
-If you hook up your original NES to the rare AOL-produced modem and beat Mega Man 6 with all the items, all of your copies of Fantasy Zone will self-erase!
AND YOUR RASH IS CURED!
You've wandered away from my trigger button. Alex Kidd could do gay porn for all I care.
oh ok. fixed.
Dude, it so is:
1. It's still opting for a older engine when a 3D version exists with almighty cel-shading. I'd say Super Fantasy Zone is better looking game too. They decided to use classic hardware.
2. Though it is a remake, the original FZ2 is a obscurity to the point most players stumble across it rather than it being common knowledge. It may as well be a new game.
3. Yes, Fantasy Zone graphics are better, they are also iconic, same with Megaman. I'd daresay most people know only the NES Megaman same as anyone familar with Fantasy Zone likely knows it from the original not it's few spinoffs/sequels.
4. You're joking yourself on the compilation. This remake is the only thing you're paying money for aside from some galleries. Price point is about equal on both sides.

God I want the PC Mega Man games so bad
Is it just 1 and 3, then, or was there a 2?
I've never seen anything about a PC MM2, so, yeah.
I imagine they're up on a certain Underdog sort of website.
edit: ebay tells me some of the "X" games got a Windows release as well. Huh.
Game footage at least shows a few meager new ideas. Hopefully this will be as Under Defeat was for DC shooters. *-neo
Fuck them, go protect something good.Quote:

Don't copy that floppy.
GEE I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING THIS NEW MEGA MAN VIDCON
Got them, playing now.
ALSO FOUND BONUS:
you got Mega Man 2 novelization
Mega Man would have blushed if his circuits had been programmed for that activity.
Why do you hate love?
How does SFZ look better than the arcade original, which was on better hardware and pushed a lot more shit (better style too)?
But let's just clarify the real issue here:
The FZ2 thing is interesting because the arcade FZ2 was on SMS hardware and a downgrade from the first game in many ways, despite some great ideas, so there's a feeling among fans that there was this wasted potential for a FZ2 that could have been better than the original. It's making up for a missed opportunity of the past.
The exact opposite is true of Mega Man. There was no wasted potential there. In fact, they went back to the well more times than they should have already, and one more trip isn't going to introduce anything new. There's no where else to go with it. People (fans anyway) really do wonder "What would a System 16 Fantasy Zone II have been like?" No one has ever wondered what else could have been done in an NES Mega Man. Fuck, I didn't even play the last 2 NES Mega Mans for more than a half hour as is. The PC version of MMX came with a controller that was exactly like the Genesis controller with 6 buttons. It was so rad. Good port too, but the music sucked ass unless you had a high end MIDI card (I did!).
I had that book.
Blaster Master's too.
Also: Ninja Gaiden.
Anyways, I like Capcom's decision to go with the classic look. Chances are if they went crazy with the graphics all that would have happened is that people would squeal with excitement while looking at screenshots before declaring that Mega Man 2 is still better once they actually got around to playing the game. Since everyone always praises a Nintendo game over everything else they've done, that's what they've made. And if 2 is still better than 9 that's ok, because they'll be able to rest easily knowing that they saved all of the money and time that would have gone into creating a current gen turd.
I had no idea the Fantasy Zone fanbase clamored so hard for a proper system 16 sequel. It's release is a romantic notion on the developers side, you're reading a shitload too far into it. Without knowing squat on MM9 save a 40 second long video I'd say the developers will bring up a idea or two with a 15 year gap since the last NES game. *-neo
The entire Fantasy Zone fanbase posts on this board.
Yes, it has been a dangling question in my mind since before this compilation ever came along. And the new Fantasy Zone II has the potential to be the definitive version of a great game, and there's always value to that.
This will not be the definitive Mega Man. It will be fun to play through once and then you will throw it on the pile of other NES Mega Man games you don't play anymore and go back to playing 2. Worth 800 points? Yeah, probably. But I agree with Neo that it isn't really as compelling a product as the FZ thing.
If Sega announced Fantasy Zone IV was coming and then revealed that it used the same engine as the original arcade game, I would be disappointed there, too. Melf said pretty much the same thing earlier in this thread except with Phantasy Star. My expectations are higher for sequels than remakes. I blame the gaming industry's general lack of effort put into remakes for that attitude.
Which is why TNL is awesome for the most part. I stopped posting at more mainstream places like modojo where even the slight mention of anything from the '80s outside of popular NES games will get you branded as an elitist.
You say that as if it were a bad thing.Quote:

Muppet Babies was awful.
We don't need a dumb ol' Pretendo game!
Good find Finchy.
Opa-opa doesn't have a pilot :(
That Gonzo sprite sucks.
Oh dear god my ears! Maybe Jim Henson's death was karma for allowing this to be made.
James
I think I'll play through one or two of the original Mega Man games pretty soon.
Maybe beating a non-Mario game will help me not think the NES library is a gigantic ball of shit.
I'm just curious... how many of the NES Mega Man games have you guys finished? Am I the only one psychotic enough to have finished all six?
I've finished every original Mega Man and Mega Man X game. Including the PC ones, the GB ones, Wily Wars on Genny and so on.
Really?
I've beaten all 6 NES games, and i enjoyed all 6 NES games. Got to the end of MM7, but the last boss is stupid hard, got bored of MM8 because it's not as good as any of the NES Mega Mans.
I'm pretty much where Finch is. I did the NES games, the first X title, and MM7. That's about when my interest dwindled, though I am working through ZX right now.
I could never get into the X titles, just no magic there. Beat the first one, made it to the end of X2 and X3, even tried convincing myself to like 4, 5, 7, and 8, but jesus, X just sucks.
X4 was pretty damn fun.
I beat 1 and 2 then I stopped giving a shit.
I just finished 1.
Some of it was kinda shitty.
Elecman's music was neat.
Even at ten dollars this is underwhelming.

It'd be cool if you could buy stages from past games with extra content in them.
btw am I alone in wanting MM2-style assist items in this game and no dog/bird/etc
Dude, I was nine.
Age faster.
I'm used to having to defend the SMS but NES hate is pretty rare since everyone grew up with it. I assume you're aware of most of the big name titles but I also recommend checking out some of the later, more obscure classics on it that push the hardware like Recca, Moon Crystal, and Little Samson if you haven't already. There's so much good stuff on that system. I'm sure you can find stuff you'll like.
Like Street Fighter 2010. You should try that one.
Yeah, it's really just more ignorance than anything. All I've ever put time into are some first party stuff and some now not-so-worthwhile arcade ports.
I also hate how everything is always flickering, all the time.
I've briefly seen Recca, but I haven't even heard of those other two. Thanks.
imo
This game, like everything else in my life that I was looking forward to, is going to suck just to make my life that much more bleek.
Dude... just kill yourself and get it over with.
I heard he wuz hardcore.
brb killing myself.
k back.
ur not hardcore
I'll see about the killing of myself. Hopefully I get hit by a bus on my way to a story.
Wow. I've never heard of Recca. Looking at Youtube, that sucker was way ahead of it's time. Can't believe the NES pushes all that without falling apart, either.
There are so many fucking Mega Man games it's hard to decide if I should mention what I have or have not beaten since both lists are equally cumbersome.
Let's just say I have beaten a lot of Mega Man games of every type.
Yes.
Start off the fight with the Rush cycle thing since it takes damage for you. Then, while he's doing the saucer flying around freezing you for a million damage bullshit, call out Rush item or whatever and hope he drops fat loads of health on your ass. Also don't suck.Quote:
Got to the end of MM7, but the last boss is stupid hard
$10 yay, future add-on content? Very dumb.
Finished all six NES games, though the last three barely required a day apiece. Didn't touch seven, got partly through Forte and eight and got bored. Otherwise ZX 1 is the only other title I've bothered to beat and it returned to lackluster in ZX Advent. *-neo
Incorrect. Unless Mega Mans live in your brain.
Chrono Cross will do that to ya. Stop playing it. I stop wanting to die whenever i stop wanting to play Persona 3, just like you stop wanting to die when you stop wanting heroin. I'm selling it to someone else so they can be depressed with life. Take some Deprex and stop playing videogames that suck. Buy yourself a bicycle and ride it, go have some delicious Thai food, eat a lychee. Things'll start looking up.
Oh, and MMZero is pretty cool, i agree. MMLegends is a happy drug, just in case anyone wanted to know.
<3 Zero
<3 Legends
<3 Finchy???
:D ??? <3 Mzo!!!
... come to think of it, my recent bout of problems all started because of Persona 3, and the game itself just kept pulling me down because of how bad it was. What a piece of shit game.
This is old, but needs to be posted.
Because Mega Man The Movie doesn't need to be made if it doesn't look exactly like this.
That really is exciting!
I loooove Recca. I even tracked down a complete copy of it. It really makes the hardware scream. Lots of emulators can't handle some of the effects, like the weirdo linescrolling in Stage 1-B.
As a bit of a history lesson, Recca was pretty much all done by Shinobu Yagawa, who went on to make most of Raizing's shooters. You can see a lot of proto-Raizing elements in Recca, like the powerups, the medal chaining, and the charging bomb.
Pink Sweets nicks gameplay from Battle Bakraid which nicks gameplay from Recca. I like Recca more than most Raizing games because it doesn't encourage weirdo counter-intuitive actions like suicides for score or rank control.
I swear I read this somewhere and then quickly forgot.Quote:

Which makes it weird that reading it here, again, made me go "holy shit really!?"
