Any doubts I may have had beforehand have been put to rest by that trailer.
Still getting it for the Wii, if external storage is announced. I can't wait to play this with a sideways Wiimote.
Agk! It has those disappearing blocks again. I fucking hated those.
I don't know about this. I'm very disappointed that Capcom was too lazy to use any assets made after 1989, but the gameplay looks solid enough. I'll probably end up buying it on XBLA. Lord knows I haven't bought anything there in quite some time, so why not?
I guess I'm forced to post this here as well.

If I could play these games with the accursed NES D-pad, then I can play it on the 360.
re: trailer
Fuck. Yes.
Yeah, after watching that I can't see how anyone wouldn't be excited.
Yaw. NES d-pad is one grillion times easier to use than Three Sitty d-pad.
I really need to do that d-pad mod. I think Josh did it recently and said it was easy.
I can't believe you guys prefer that crappy cross pad. I've always hated it.
My headstone will have + -- oo
+ -- oo forever
I'm going to try it once I go buy sandpaper. I will report back with results! I can't imagine how it wouldn't be an improvement. Anything would. It's a shame they haven't fixed this yet, because it's the only thing keeping it from being my favorite (analog-enabled, I haven't forgotten Genesis 6 button and Saturn :() controller ever.
I prefer one thrillion, the most exciting number.
But that one works. I like d-pads that work.
That is the best looking game in years. I'm glad I accidentally clicked on this thread again. Not that I have a wii.
It's probably just me but I've been playing MM: AC on the 360 and have had zero problems with the dpad(hell I've even beaten Megaman 2,3,4, and 6 with it)
*shrug*
Hell I even beat The Power Battles 2 without dying(Rescue Roll scenario).
Is there a hidden trailer somewhere? Because that one didn't exactly blow me away. I might still buy it, not sure for the ps3 or 360 though.
There is this though, I hate the ps3 controllers.Quote:
I'm pretty content to never use one of those controllers again.
After that trailer:
Is the game slightly higher resolution? Obviously all the art is drawn at the same resolution, but it looks like there's more screen space.
Obviously nice to see that there's no flicker/slowdown/any of that, so it's not like it's a native NES title. Which I seriously thought might have been a possibility.
looks new to meQuote:

Day 1. The music sold me.
That made some of us go "YESSSSS."
I will play this.
I didn't even notice the lack of flickering/slowdown until I saw Tains post about it.
Also, I drew this after watching the trailer:

I think he used a screwdriver.
Monster, please.
I play NES games on an XBox 1 "Duke" controller dpad nowadays, so it takes all kinds...
I can make every jump in "Batman" perfectly with it, so I guess it works.
Mega Man 3 (1990)

Mega Man 9 (2008)

I guess they did use assets after 1989!
Aside from the rain effects and some more detail, this is a NES game, pure and simple.
I took the shot of MM9 from the trailer, which is why it's blurry. There are no official shots yet, I think.
Well yeah. But you were saying it wasn't using any new art at all.Quote:

No Tain, like this.
OH, IS IT NOW?Quote:

Right. Look up an online tutorial. There are lots of them.
Look at the final dragon in the video. His head flickers. (edit: or that could be a "damage" flicker from getting shot messed up by the video's framerate...)
Looks like straight-up NES to me. Still looks cool, but I would have loved to see multiple scroll levels/crazy sprites etc while sticking to the 4-color tiles.
That Hori EX2 stick might be fun to play this with. The buttons might suck for fighters, but the stick was pretty precise and fun for playing Pacman CE.
And that was the point.
the problem, imo.
I hope they redo 7 and 8 in this style.
Yeah. Maybe for part 10.Quote:

Some indie developers have already done 7 as a Famicon game.
So has Capcom pretty much given up on modernizing MegaMan? Legends was pretty fun and Battle Network was a neat diversion (which Capcom predictably milked dry). Can't they make a nice "NextGen" 3D Megaman ala Contra:SS or Maximo?
They probably would have if Powered Up didn't sell like curdled milk on a stick.
I still hold that Powered Up would do extremely well as a $10 release on XBLA/PSN. The level editor and sharing thing would be fucking amazing on an online setup worth a damn.
I still say Powered Up gave MegaMan sticky feet.
MM2 Powered Up would give me sticky pants. But MM9 is okay too!
Contra SS was fucking horrible, though. It didn't even come close to Contra 3. Bad way to update.
It was as if someone had described Contra 3 to a new developer, they tried to replicate it in 3D, and missed the mark completely.
Contra 4 all the way! (Which is kind of an analog to MM9 in that way, oddly enough...)
Contra 4 is shit. It might be good if it stuck to one screen (actually, I know it would be good).
I can not believe some people are complaining about how this looks and that its not modernized. Are you fucking serious? Im amazed this is being made. You have to give capcom some major props. Hopefully some other companies and game series follow suit. Bring on the rebirth of the NES!
Actually, yes it is a universal problem...unless you're somehow telling me that the gameplay would be 100% identical in every single situation if there wasn't a big gap between the screens. Which if you did, you'd be lying.
Did you die a lot? Was it embarassing? Is that what you are saying?
Even if it's only once, it's one too many times in a game where you have a couple lives and can take no damage
Well, practice. I've never heard of anyone 1cc'ing Contra 1 first time out either.
Have you played it on Hard yet? Or gone through Challenge mode?
No, I don't play it anymore period. It sucks and is yet another reason why I won't listen to DS recommendations from people who have their head so far up Japan's ass
You realize that game was American-made, right?
Yep.
Silliness.
Why are you trying to reason with Joost? That makes about as much sense as trying to stop the titanic from flooding by using a bucket to throw the water overboard.
You're trying to reason and be logical with some one who probably hasn't even played the game, and even if he did he's so dedicated to his hating of it that he wouldn't enjoy it no matter what.
I suppose so. I'll never be as cool as his boss-ass living room Nintender racing game enclosure.
Huh? That isn't rationalizing shit. I said, "The dual-screen is shitty if you even die once" and the rationalization is, "WELL NO ONE BEAT CONTRA 1 THEIR FIRST TIME"...yeah, exactly the same thing
I bought the game, you Nintendrone retard.
I'd never make quite as big of a deal out of it, but Joust is right: the gap is dumb, the game would be better if the screens were somehow one. That's not exactly controversial, is it?
That's all I am saying.
back to mega man
www.gamefaqs.com imo.
Also, I'm adding a red card violation for use of bad fanboy puns. We really can't tolerate this behavior.
well then can Shit JohnPV curb his response to the Nintendo bat signal?
Who the fuck even mentioned Nintendo?
Obsession for Men, imo.
If it was a PSP game, he wouldn't have even said a word. We both know this.
and the game would be ten times better
And it would have sold 2 copies. Like Mega Man Powered Up.
Mm. Agreed.
I wish Megaman 9 was on Gameboy Advance. with Brickboy green and dark green graphics.
There are lots of MeganMas. MeganMa 10 came out for SNES and before 7, even! There were also 18 (or more?) unique games in the normal series, but the number only goes up to 8!

You should think of the 8-bit graphics not as 8-bit graphics per se, but as a different art style.
Taking out the charge shot is good.
Taking out the slide is bad.
Considering the best MM game didn't have either, I don't know that they matter much. The slide doesn't matter when there are no obstacles that require it.
The slide is wonderful for getting through levels quicker.
It made avoiding bosses really easy.
I'm fine with ditching it.
I think it would be cool if they went back to the style of NES games' 3D chrome-ish logo. I've always liked it better than the Japanese ones with the triangles and cartoony letters.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/a...chmentid=38392
Mega Man > Rock Man, it's true.
lol no I mean the logo style
and while we're at it, roman numerals are better.
I like you TODE.
Saw the trailer, love the idea. I'd prefer a little upgrade to the graphics, maybe like the MegaDrive remakes, but I'll take it. At the very least there should be no slowdown, flicker, jutter, etc.
The MegaDrive remakes were for chumps.
Ah ah, but that cart/Sega Channel "package" included MM 1, 2, and 3!
JA-MON!
The MD compilation (Wily Wars) kind of sucks because the jump timing is off. Once you get used to it it's not a problem, but it shouldn't have been changed in the first place.
And the music. Nothing sounds like that damn NES sound chip for the MM soundtracks.
That just gave me a full on Jeff Goldblum feel.
