I'm starting to kinda hit that fatigue with the new games, and I'm playing more and more old ones as time goes on. Not always ancient old, just not recently released.
This summer has been the absolute quietest ever. Very few of my friends are around, so I'll probably be playing a lot of games. =/
I go into gaming discussion maybe... once a week. I go into Sound Off, Cinemania, Music Discussion every day.
I still care about video games. I like to talk about them and read the news and history about them. I don't have time or the extra income to play games like I used to. I do play about an hour a day, but on my psp or DS since they go with me to work and I get 2 15 minute breaks and an half hour lunch and that's about all the time I get to play. Having CFW on psp is great so I can put all those psone games that I bought but didn't play on them. Wish I could do that with ps2 games...
I like videogames quite a lot.
I don't have the drive to buy games the day they are released anymore and I don't get all crazy about the hottest new releases like I used to.
I pick up games on the cheap and I play them when I get to 'em.
With so many games in my "pile of shame" it just doesn't make sense to spend 60 bucks on a game, when I could wait five months and get it for 20.
Portable games in the bed before I go to sleep are pretty awesome too.
The main difference in my game diet is I don't get all crazy and try to "master" games like I used to. Back in the day I was a hardcore fighting game player. I was well known all around the area at arcades and played in fighting game tourneys (sup 99 wins killer instinct? sup street fighter 2 guile dominance for hours and hours? sup zomg he is never going to lose in tekken 2?). I wrote faqs, I practiced single moves and combos for hours on end.
I do not have the drive, time, determination, or even the care or want to do that anymore.
I play games as long as they are fun... as soon as they quit being fun, regardless of if I have finished them or not, I turn 'em off.
I felt that way about the JRPGs, until the PSOne/PSX came out. I'd finished every (North American released) Final Fantasy, finished Phantasy Star II, Lunar, Lunar 2 and The Secret of Mana. I'd thought that I would never tire of that style of gaming, then along came Final Fantasy VII.Quote:

I still enjoy gaming quite a bit. It's just that it takes more than game X (Part 4) to get me interested in playing. This generation has me excited about what's to come, but I'm not as eager to jump into every new title that comes along. I want to play MGS4, but I'm trying to finish up a couple of games I've had for awhile, before I sink my teeth into that game.
I enjoy dusting off an old console and giving a few games a spin, but just as often as I find a thrilling experience, I'm just as often wondering why I enjoyed certain games back in the day.

At the very least with other game series you can talk about the story, play mechanics or similar games you've played.
I still think about EverQuest... WoW would eat my soul, so I haven't even played a demo. Definitely thought about signing up when they came out with the new level cap, epic mounts and quests. BTW, I'm purposely playing into buttcheeks post.

When I was a teenager, I was really into JRPGs. Not so much anymore. Their plots and dialogue just seem so cliche and sophomoric to me now. You know how everyone was raving about the quality of the writing in Lost Odyssey's dream sequences? When I read them, they were the same bullshit I read or seen in a thousand other Japanese games/anime. I can't stand the play mechanics anymore either.
I really have to rely on Western games to satisfy me now (with notable exceptions like MGS4). A LOT of crap gets put out by western game companies, but when they make something good, it makes the narrative and gameplay of most Japanese games look amateurish.
Overall though, I just don't have the attention span I used to. I can play for several hours once I start, but something keeps me from actually turning on the system in the first place, even if from a logical standpoint I know I would enjoy playing. The longer I go, the less likely it is that I'll ever come back. I have several games I've never beaten, that I genuinely enjoyed, simply because I stopped playing them for a while and therefore never worked up the motivation to go back and relearn where I was at.
