seriously, huge lol at "fighting games are dead"
Okay, so fighting's not as big as a lot of genres are right now, no, but there are a lot of high profile titles coming and it'll be interesting to see how they do worldwide. Not that I believe that SF4 will magically changing everything for people who complain about having to (gasp) learn something new before playing a game, or that US gamers will eventually care about Virtua Fighter or something crazy about that. There's still a ton of good fighting games coming out and as long as the developers have the means to make more of them and people still play them, that's all that really matters to me. I mean, they're not exactly the niche that shooters are. I just thought yawa's statement was particularly insane. Moreso than usual even.
Just the whole idea of a skill-based game that's only 15 minutes long and only two people can play at a time is too alien to gamers that didn't grow up in arcades. It is a genre in decline. It's not going to die, but it's going to end up in the same state shmups are in.
I attended Midwest Challenge two weeks ago.
Trust me, they're dead.
SHUT UP :(
edit: lol @ TNL editing my all caps post, wtf is this shit
