I haven't had cable for over a year either.
I watch movies via netflix, and tv shows (office, lost) by downloading them.
Other times I read books. holy shit!
I have Cable, and I enjoy it a lot.
If it were up to me, I'd only have cable simply for internet access but Time Warner wants to rape me financially and doesn't offer any good deals around here if you just want one or the other. The only time I turn on my tv is for gaming or watching the Venture Bros., and even then I think I can watch that show a couple of days in advance on adultswim.com.
Edit: Also, three years in here and I'm at my 100th post, gawd this professional lurking thing makes me look antisocial.
Cable, because that's all I can get here. If I had my choice it'd be Direct TV.
If it wasn't for sports I could live without it.
Whenever I'm making this decision, I'm just gonna keep the cable service to internet access.
I use Netflix for the occasional movie or TV series if someone recommends it. If I want to watch baseball, I go to a Dodgers or Angels game. Since I don't drive any more, I am in the same boat as Josh and read a lot on the bus ride into work and back home, along with whatever I grab at the library and read at home.
I think I had some form of cable (DirecTV maybe? E can clear that up for me) for a few months in 2003. Nothing since then, though.
I don't think I could live without ESPN and TNT during basketball season but besides that cable really isn't necessary. Going to be getting my television programming through fiberoptic when I get that installed though.
Haven't had TV for years now. I download everything.
I find that this way I'm watching much more interesting stuff/not paying for 70 channels I don't want. Once fiber is widespread TV is dead.
MAYBE THAT'S WHY IT'S TAKING SO LONG
Law & Order reruns, new Lost & new Venture Bros. That's been the extent of it this year.
I'd be far more bored than usual if I was without ESPN, YES (for baseball), Discovery and the Food Network.
FIOS TV through Verizon + DVDs
FIOS isn't a poll choice? For shame. FIOS + my Verizon DVR keeps me happy.
:O
DirecTV + HD DVR. but I hardly ever watch TV real time anymore.
I agree with cigs though...once I can get nearly instant HD over the net, TV is dead.
I just don't see TV dying, most people don't want to watch things on a 15-19 inch moniter. I know I sure as as shit don't, and is why I still have alot of stuff unwatched on my hard drive.
Thats why I have Tversity and my Xbox 360.
You think I watch Top Gear on my monitor at my desk? Hell no.
Cable internets, cable tee-vee, belonging to a roomate. Now that the interesting sports are finished I watch about 5 minutes a week, mostly news or some cartoon.
Read a book, read a book, read a motherfuckin' book.
YEA-AH!
I have Cable for Center Ice, Man vs Wild, Axe Men, the Millitary Channel and the Food Network. I honestly watch more movies (via Netflix or theatre) than tv. There is just too much "reality" shit on anymore. I wish Cable or satellite would even tually go a-la-carte so i only had to pay for 5 or 6 channels.
That would be awesome. My cable bill would be microscopic.
I don't have any cable. Sometimes I miss it, but there's a lot of shows I hate to like and I just feel dirty watching them.
I miss Top Chef, Ninja Warrior, and the discovery channel.
I didn't have cable for years til moving in here, and I really like it. Mostly because the Encore channels and IFC will almost always have something I want to watch on at night, and there's a lot of other good trashy shows I enjoy. It is ridiculously expensive and I do wish we could pick and choose channels, though. The original Iron Chef is back on Fine Living, so is Molto Mario, and we don't get it. :(
You didn't miss much with the last season of Top Chef, Rated E. It kinda sucked.
Yeah, Les Stroud is the real deal.
But to be fair it's not like Bear Grylls is some huge pussy...
Yep, out in the wilderness for seven days, alone, no food, little survival gear, and about 100 pounds of audio/video equipment.
So if you see him climb a cliff on the show, he had to climb it twice. Once to get a shot of him going up the cliff, then climb down, get the gear, and carry it back up!
That man vs. wild show is all film crews and pre-set situations and editing. Heck, dog sleeps in hotels most of the time, then they all film him "waking up" on the cold artic tundra.
I <3 Survivorman. He eats scorpions and drinks his own piss condensation.
About 70% of my television viewing is Discovery Channel. I think I've seen every single episode of Dirty Jobs and Deadliest Catch.
I used to be big up on my network shows, but then I didn't have cable for a year and stoped watching. I dont even know whats on Adult Swim or any primetime slot anymore. Although I did recently discover Frisky Dingo. It is good.
4 U 2 C Dyne: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UpSlpvb1is (read the video info too).
No cable. I owe 500 to comcast. fuck that.
I do the same as Chao ... Hula, adultswim.com, or the usual places.
I try not to watch too much TV- I have too many other hobbies to waste my time with that, althought an occasional program will catch my interest. I mostly use my TV for watching DVDs and playing videogames.
My basic cable dropped HBO last year, but Oz has been over for a few years so I don't give a shit…that is, unless the Preacher HBO series ever gets made.
Tversity is good times, I would say 90% of my TV viewing is movies or TV on DVD.Quote:
Thats why I have Tversity and my Xbox 360.
Only reason I still have cable is because my father pays for it. Otherwise I could do without it, as I only use it for gaming, dvds, or just background noise when I'm on the computer.
I only have DirecTV for the Dodgers games. I never watch anything else on my TV except for the new Blu Rays/HD DVDs and TV show box sets that I buy every week. When baseball season is over, DirectTV can go to hell for all I care.
I really wish you could pick channels too. I'd get a handful of learning channels, history channel, comedy central, toonami, and GAS. Oh, and the cooking channel.
Cable for now...but looking at killing it and getting an HD antenna. I rarely watch it...so Comcast is making some easy money off of me.
You don't need an "HD" antenna, a regular one will work just fine.
cable tv and the internet
I watch random crap like the discovery channel or conan o'brien on tv, and follow my more involved shows (and ones that don't fucking air in canada yet BURN NOTICE seriously global jesus christ you pick up in plain sight but leave this one alone) through the internets
Is it just me, or has HBO gotten really bad lately too? I was somehow signed up for the HBO service and not the Cinemax/Showtime/Starz, or whatever all the other movie channels are, and the HBO channels show the OLDEST shit. I'll turn on HBO and see crap like "My Cousin Vinny" and other late 80s/early 90s movies all the time. Meanwhile, most of the other movie channels at least play some semi-newer movies. Whats the point of paying for a movie channel if they show the same shit that the free local channels show? At least my girl gets to watch "Bare Naked Desires" on Showtime...LOL :)
No cable here, but football season is coming up so I'll probably be getting it again then.
The only reason to get HBO is their original programming, and that's kind of on a down swing for the next year or so.
