Due to sudden heavy rainfall, our cellars were flooded. Now I need to file an insurance claim on 10 older consoles/computers. How do I estimate their value? Do I take the average sell price on Ebay or what?
The soaked consoles are as follows:
Atari 2600 (old model)
Atari 2600 (slim model)
Epoch Galaxy II
Gamatic 7600
Atari7800 (boxed)
Vectrex

Don't most companies have an agent come out to do the appraising? I've never had to file a claim for home insurance so I don't really know.
Or are things just different in your country?
I doubt they will send a guy out, I rarely see that here. I live in an apartment complex and most residents had damages. I believe I have to appraise the items myself, and hope they validate them.

I might, although I'm not going to lie to them, but the value of a Vectrex is relative. I mean, some go for insane values on Ebay, and although mine was not boxed and mint, I might as well aim high.
My ignorant advice would be you find out how much it takes to replace. If you didn't have a minty Vectrex to begin with...
So going by final ebay prices isn't a bad plan, but if you can actually find an online store that carries the system, I'd think that'd be better.
No advice is ignorant. Sadly, the word in the basement is, that there is no insurance for these kind of damages. Bottom-line: I need to change the threadtitle to "console/computer funeral". I mourn mostly over the Amiga, for it has served me well. R.I.P.
