So this past Sunday I went on my first tandem skydive. For those of you who've never gone but have thought about it, you really should just go for it. It was an incredible experience and I encourage anyone to try it at least once.
I had them make a DVD of the jump and for the most part they did a good job. I could have done without the music or the overzealous instructor, but I guess it matches the really lighthearted attitude these guys had. Their cavalier attitude was actually reassuring, they practically breathe skydiving. They're at the point where it's so second nature that they can make light of it.
The only thing I didn't like was the point where he hands me the parachute controls and tells me to spin. That took my stomach to hell, I got pretty dizzy from it. The freefall is amazing though. I'm not afraid of heights, but I can see how people say that even if you are, you're far too high up to recognize the difference between you and the ground. You also don't really feel like you're falling past maybe the first second, it's really kind of indescribable.
Anyway, I look pretty phased out by the end but it was one of the coolest things I've ever done.
Another nice benefit was in order to skydive I had to lose some weight, which I did, but I got so much into the swing of things that I'm still going, and plan on jumping again once I'm at my target.
Anyone else make a jump? Anything interesting?
