Practice practice practice.
I'm taking a break from Pacifism to play N+. I think I screamed "FUCK" about 40 times today. After I beat all, or at least 90% of the levels in this game I'll buy Braid. The demo was AWESOME.
The main game I'm playing right now is "Avoid Sex in the City"
I downloaded the complete season for Rebecca and she's watching the fuck out of it.
today I got the "get through the living room and get an apple from the kitchen without seeing the tv screen" achievement. It was awesome.
It may as well be 200 fucking billion.
Whore.
R-Type Final.
Completely wrote this game off back in the day. Too many bullet hell games and was convinced the load of ships was screwing the balance. Now it seems like such a great package and unlike anything last gen. The directions ship designs take with each new unlockable, how extremely eerie the soundtrack and art is, and just how much they tried to pack in.
I started Far Cry today.
I always assumed it wouldn't be my kind of game, for whatever reason, but lord does it rule. There's something really satisfying about the stalking around, the pistol's head shots, the rocket equipped jeep fights, all of it. And I've been very much in an FPS mood lately.
MLB Power Pros 2008 (PS2) and Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3). Power Pros MLB Life mode confirms the fear that I would like stupid f-chan life sims.
Mario Kart Advance/Super Circuit (GBA) - my favorite Kart racer with only Crash Team Racing coming close.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (PS2) - I also own the DC version but I got an import PS2 version for only $9.99 (plus shippping)
Some more shit I have been playing:
Bangai-O Spirits - Maybe I'm just in a different mood than several years ago but I'm liking this more than the original so far. It's retro-inspired but it seems much fresher than the disappointing sequels to Gunstar and Guardian Heroes.
TimeShift - I thought the demo was great last year, and finally picked it up cheap. It's not a top tier FPS but it's not that far off either. The time manipulation is really cool and keeps it from feeling like a Black clone.
Advent Rising - I picked up the Xbox version for $3 at EB. I'm not sure what to make of it yet. It's a little goofy looking and floaty but I'm liking the fast pace. I can picture the simple lock on-heavy action wearing thin, though.
When you finish it, throw this at it. Not finished yet (only 3 levels) but good for what it is. Pushes Crytex 1.0 to it's limits.

Braid - Really awesome game, artistically and technically speaking. I'm surprised it's engine is strong enough to let you record to the very beginning of the level, even if 8 or 9 minutes have passed by. Sure cost a lot to make, but still good fun. Might try and finish it with all the pieces this morning before going out for brunch with the lady and friends.
FFTA2: Grimoire of the Rift - I bought this the day it came out, ignored it and am only rushing through it since my friend just got it and is 97 quests deep. I must destroy him...So far! Six...
Geometry Wars: Evolved 2 - 200/200 Achievements, houu yeah! Now it's just playing for actual fun. Honestly though, the achievements were some of the most fun I've played in a game. It almost feels as if it was solely made for those trials. Great game, surely going to last me a very long time.
Bionic Commando: ReArmed - Played this co-op, thought it was terrible. And not really feeling it right now, so I'll give it a rest until I'm ready.
Soul Calibur IV - Xianghua: "Yoosh! Itadaki!!!! Game is sweet, even with all the ridiculous physics engine cupped (ha!) around boobs and cellulite combined. Looks great, plays pretty good, but waking up from the ground seems slower than in 2 or 3. Still, tons of fun and the lag is starting to go away in online matches. Relief! Halfway through the Tower of Souls so far.
And man, the voices are really bad in English. I usually prefer keeping voices to English even if it's a J-game since I find English far superior, but even my friends who don't adhere to Japanese games switched it off. It's not painful, just kind of questionable.
Ninja Gaiden II - Playing the DLC. I don't know why I bought it, but honestly in my humble opinion it's exactly what I would have wanted in the first place from the game. Simple quick missions of just fighting. The original standalone copy of NG2 crams enemies at you at every corner, I know, but I always an area or two where enemies just keep spawning relentlessly that I could pick up and play for two-three minutes.
Only played it for 5-10 minutes after purchasing it this week. Have some 20 missions left to do before I can call it a day.
I was playing BF: Bad Company, but I returned that POS game.
im about to make my second attempt at dead rising, but this game frustrated me so much the first time (because i wanted to save everyone, i missed one psycho because of it, and those god damn psychos in the military jeep respawning, assholes...)
here goes nothing.
Dodonpachi-Dai-ou-jou (PS2)
Umihara Kawase Shun (PS)
Pixel Junk Eden (PS3)
Geometry Wars 2 (360)
Braid (360)
Ninja Gaiden II (360)
Parodius Collection/Salamander Collection/Twinbee Collection (PSP)
Drill Dozer (GBA)
I've barely played any games at all this summer. I play Street Fighter Alpha 3 on my GBA whenever I have to entertain myself on long bus/train rides, but other than that, all I've played are the occasional emulated arcade game and some DC Soul Calibur.
Resident Evil 4 Wii - I can't stop playing this game. I'm fucking addicted right now. I just want to get every stupid gun the game offers even if it makes no difference anymore. All I've got left is the Mercenaries Magnum to get, and I'm good (and hopefully I can stop).
Zelda OOT Wii - Never finished it back in the day. Just never had the motivation to. The newer 3D Zelda's always just felt way to fucking big for me. I am gonna force myself to finish it no matter what though.
Call of Duty 4 - Part of the reason this isn't completed yet, is that I'm simply FPS'd out, and I was playing Orange Box at the same time I was playing this.
Thats it for now.
P.S. Anyone who does not give up on Dead Rising after the first play through, deserves every goddamn thing they get.
Might check it out, thanks. Certainly looks the part.Quote:

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 - video game crack.
I am loving The Club. What an awesome game.
Yeah I picked it up the other day too. It's kind of sad that this game flopped. Some of the reviews I've read are balls out retarded.
Dragon Quest V
Rhythm Tengoku
Mother
The DS, it's all you need really!
In my quest for shit to pay while all I can do is sit at home until classes start, I have done the following:
I've restarted Bioshock. Still need to get the achievement for playing on hard, even though I did that the first time around yet never got the achievement and find all the tapes. Doesn't hurt that the game was one of the best of 2007 and its aout time I played through it again.
I also picked up The Orange Box for the 360. Despite having all those games on the PC, my PC is no longer a gaming rig, nor does it have any online capabilities and I never finished Ep3. Now I can keep myself busy going back and playing all the HL2 games, going through Portal again, playing TF with the TNL 360 crew, and getting achievements to boot.
I also ordered Fable: The Lost Chapters, so I will be playing through that in a few days to get me pumped for Fable II.
I have been playing Super Mario Galaxy and FF4 on DS. I really like Mario Galaxy, it feels...epic, I guess. I like the controls and the music is really good for a Mario game. It sounds much more orchestral. The graphics are surprising as well, why don't other Wii games look as good as this one? FF4 is fun and for some reason I dig the terrible voice acting. Seems a bit harder than I remember and I have beat the supposed hard-type on PS1. I just don't know about the 3D graphics, sometimes they look OK but mostly it's a muddy mess.
DS can't really do 3D, it is worse than PS1 at times.
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Swords wasn't bad.
I am about to restart Bioshock as well.
I might have already said it, but good on people experiencing The Club. Too bad you cacksmokes didn't buy it when it mattered
It mattered whenever I bought it. I don't care to play online with The Club.
Metal Gear Solid 4: I'm only at the point just after Akido shits his pants and the villains are introduced, but it's been the best 4 minutes of gameplay sandwiched between 35 minutes of cut scenes this side of Xenosaga! Seriously, I'm really liking this one, but I would actually like to play more than just a few minutes before sitting for more cut scenes.
Motorstorm: Picked this one up really cheap at GS, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Plays good too. I'm liking it so far, but I haven't really gotten far into it yet.
Yeah but it didn't matter when it was discounted 100 times before you bought it
Motorstorm is the best PS3 game
Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds - this is fucking hot. I really like the advanced shots; it's all I use now. The game looks nice, too.
Wario Land Advance - pick up and play, a damn nice platformer so far.
Also still playing previously posted games.
Flatout Ultimate Carnage is a better offroad racing game than Motorstorm.
Pokemon Pearl-An ass hole friend got me playing these games for the first time since the the red/blue days. And I just can't believe how stupid addicting these games are. I logged eight hours into this easy over the weekend. Even though some times it gets painfully repetitive I still always keep playing. I would say pearl is the best yet, but they are all pretty much the same. It looks a lot cleaner than emerald but I don't know if you could call it better. This has become more or less the only reason I own a Ds.
Quake 4-I've been dying for a new shooter, but I'm not spending 60$ on Battlfield BC or quake wars. So until september 21 rolls around I'm canibilizing old shooters I never beat. So I settled on quake 4, when I got this game two years ago I slogged through like 7 or 8 levels on the hardest difficulty then just quit in a fit of disinterest. So I started a new game on normal and just plowed my way back to where I was in like an hour and a half. The corridors look great but the people and landscapes are ungodly ugly. And the gun play is as rudimentary as it gets, but hey It's very playable and things blow up good. So unless you're like me and feel compelled to play every shooter in exsistence there's really no reason in the world to play quake 4.
Since I beat Portal last night I'm playing through HL2 from Orange Box on 360. Yes, I'm the one person left who had never played HL2. I'm close to 2 hours in now, and OMG I am so bored of the game environment. Trash, mucky muck, sewer, tunnel, more trash, brown, brown, brown, zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... I hope it changes up soon.
Bangai-o Spirits. Seems rad so far, but I prefer the leaner Dreamcast iteration. Like Tain mentioned in the official thread, spamming Reflect gets you farther than it should. It seems borderline broken.
KoF '98 UM. Still. This game is truly fucking bad ass. Lucky Glauber is getting my write-in for president.
SNK Cardfighters Clash. I can't beat the goddamn tournament at the end. People are pulling out all kinds of crazy ass cards like Mecha Zangief. Ralph and Clark aren't cutting it anymore, I'm afraid.
Half-Life 2's art direction/atmosphere is very..."subtle" in its approach. Its about a simple, overall feeling of starkness and Iron Curtain desolation. You either love it or you don't. I for one, from an artist's perspective, find it to be one of the most beautiful games ever.
Neither did Valve. After the eighth level you wander into a bright field lined with neon highways adjacent to a city built out of light inhabited by people that show their lineage of being born from stars by shining like the sun.Quote:

Shame you're on 360, because SMOD and the cinematic mod are awesome addons that can really spice up vanilla HL2.
I bought a Wii over the weekend. I mainly just wanted it for Metroid Prime 3 & Fatal Frame IV, but man, I didn't realize those were like the only disc based games that hold major interest for me that will ever be released for it. The Wii's future release list is a shovelware horror show.
Fortunately it's a pretty kickass retro system. I don't like piracy, give me a reasonable way to legitimately pay for these things and I'll take it.
I DLed Neutopia II, which is the exact same thing as I remember the first one being - a shameless yet kickass Zelda I clone. Enjoying it, though there's way too much "push all 18 blocks in this room to find the one that opens the doors" going on.
Gate of Thunder I had meant to play forever, and now that I have it really seems like its hype was a product of its time. It's not a really great game but some aspects of it would have been technically above average back when.
Also grabbed Ninja Spirit because I wanted a ninja side scroller but didn't have enough points for Shinobi III. Haven't played this game since the days of the Amiga. Man is it slow, and man does it have some super-cheap deaths. I'm on the 3rd or 4th stage and those guys with giant swords who kill you in one shot are pissing me off. The patterns aren't complex though, I'll get back at it when I have time.
Prime 3 is great in some areas, not so great in others. The defaults aren't so hot, but playing with advanced control, the gameplay is just godly. How the Wii hasn't ended up as more of an fps machine is beyond me, this is better than controller or kbm controls imo. The visuals are fantastic too. But they're obviously trying to ape Halo and position the franchise as a tentpole for the same crowd, and it just doesn't work. They didn't do as good a job with the writing, voice acting or characterization, so instead of this mysterious isolated experience you feel like you're traipsing through a Saturday morning cartoon at times. Things have also been very go here-now go here- now go here so far as well. Still, The problems haven't detracted too much overall.
Mario Galaxy is one of those games you should get even if you don't care much for platformers.
Still Playing FF IV. I just finished the Sylph Cave (literally 30 seconds ago), I'm about 23 hours in and everyone is around level 50. Now I'm about to tackle the Eidolons' cave and get Asura & Leviathan for Rydia.
MLB Power Pros 2008 (ps2) had been taking a lot of my time as well. I'm kinda addicted to playing the MLB Life mode with my created players.
Btw I'll say it again, since Strider's post makes me think of it.
It is a goddamn travesty that Dracula X for the PC Engine is not on the Virtual Console.
That is all.
i am doing amazing in dead rising, ive only lost 2 people because i didnt answer the call, i am at 3,500 zombies killed and i am at the butcher boss.
Wow everything has been going skin of my teeth awesome, ahhh.
I don't much care for platformers. I'm going to get Fire Emblem & probably Zelda, and for some reason Dragon Quest Swords appeals to me. I'll probably check out Mario when I've gone through all the other stuff - there's a huge black hole of nothing ahead for the system, so no huge rush.
No you're not, if you were paying attention a few weeks ago I started playing through the Orange Box too. I mean, I bought the Orange Box for Portal and finally decided to get the rest of my money out of it, but yeah, HL2 has not blown my skirt up so far. I stalled out halfway through EP1 because it was more broken down city shit, but I heard 2 is out in the woods and I desperately want to get there.
Yeah, they aren't anything amazing. I have to say, the textures are definately dumbed down for the consoles, and the gameplay overall can get boring at times. I suppose for its time, it was a big milestone, but now, it definitely lacks some pop. Overall though, I still think they are something to play through, and the story, though not amazing, keeps me playing to find out what happens.
I beat Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I couldn't even keep track of the story but I guess it was alright. No one plays this shit for the campaigns anyway.
I'm not sure what to tackle next. Probably GTA4 with a smattering of The Club. I've got Burnout Revenge and Paradise coming in the mail so I might be stuck on those for a while too.
It goes without saying I'll be playing a lot of Galaga this week too :\
Started playing Clash at Demonhead last night.
It's pretty awesome.
Keep me in mind. I've got a copy of Galaxy that I'm pretty sure I'll never touch again.
Braid - Backgrounds and music are fucking amazing, which also makes it kind of a shame that the character and enemy sprites are all so hideous. Puzzles range from annoying to awesome and I'm enjoying it so far, though I'm wishing there was a heavier emphasis on the jigsaw puzzles with more and smaller pieces.
BC:Rearmed - Fucking amazing.
Geometry Wars 2 - Fucking amazing.
So far, I just like the bizarre world it's setting up.
You're a spy or something who's chillin' on the beach, the bad guys show up in early levels and say things like "See you at level 22, chump!" and so on. Only game besides maybe Bionic Commando that had a map overview level select deal, you can call up a shop and buy upgrades for your character, and the bosses look neat.
Plus it got a namedrop in Scott Pilgrim, and I appreciate that. :D
There are a few others. Kenseiden comes to mind from that era.Quote:

Kenseiden is awesome. I finished it years after I bought it. Easily one of the better SMS games.
I've had Gunvalkyrie laying around since 2002. Started it up again, really getting into it. Doubtful I can finish it by Sunday, though, and that's when I won't have access to my zboz1.
Still 3rd Strike on 2DF. We need more TNL people!
I'm slowly getting better with Oro, he's now my main. Almost able to do one of the unblockable setups consistently.
When do you play cigs? Still on late at night?
Yeah, usually. Although there is a tournament tomorrow at 4pm I am planning on losing!
I think Half-Life 2 is a wonderful game. I think the level design is fantastic, but aesthetically and pragmatically - if you jump down into an area that you can't get out of, you know you're going the right direction. It doesn't muck about in creating the illusion of a sandbox-type world, because it EXCELS in its linearity. I LOVE the way it can tell a story visually, without the need for any kind of cutscene. Just like HL1, you never, ever, not once, leave the first person viewpoint or lose control, and I think that's awesome. Few games have tried to accomplish that and most don't come close. Sure, you're pushed into scripted events, but this is an action game, not a freedom-fest, and in that sense the game almost feels like a wicked 2D sidescroller that somehow works in 3D.
I mean, really, the level design is just rad. City 17 is cool, Dr. Kleiner's lab is fun, the train station is cool, the swampy zombie infested area's cool, driving the hoverboat is cool, Black Mesa West is cool, then you get the gravity gun, then Ravenholm is cool, and driving the buggy, and fights at rebels' barns where victory is met not with celebration but remorse for the dead (wow!), climbing across high rise power line infrastructure, moving planks across sand dunes to avoid hearing-sensitive enemies, setting up a turret defense in Nova Prospekt, fighting striders alongside other rebels, finally getting into the tower that you can see in the horizon at the beginning of the game........ this is all off the top of my head, and not counting episode 1 or 2! It's chock-full of memorable sequences.
Never minding it was one of the first games to introduce such a deep physics engine, it was one of the first to include a weapon that could manipulate objects in a game like never before. This will be copied countless times.
I could go on and on.
Yeah, but fuck that boat.
The gravity gun was pure awesomeness though.
Gimme the Gravity Gun and something to use it on in Portal 2, Half-Life 3 can fuck off.
Half-Life is amazing and probably the best single player FPS ever made (well, right there with Shock 2 and Deus Ex, if those are FPSes).
Half-Life 2 is really, really good. Not quite up there, but the episodes come close. I'm having trouble thinking of single player FPSes since HL2 that are better than it.
Only one I liked as much/more is Bioshock. HL2 was insane when it came out. I agree it has it's slow parts, but as a whole it's a damn good game. I'd put Episode 2 over Episode 1 as well.
The combine troops are nowhere near as fun to fight against as the original's marines and alien grunts. They seem pretty mindless, for whatever reason. Not as agile? AI movement nodes don't work as well in HL2's environments? I don't know for sure, but something seemed off, dull, and simple about 'em.
The physics puzzles and vehicle segments weren't bad, but the pacing of the original was so perfect. Awesome situation after awesome situation, and I can't think of a single area I'd pinpoint as significantly worse than the rest. Xen included.
The weapons rocked HL2's overall, too, and between the smaller environments and the seemingly faster running speed, HL1's combat seemed faster paced.
HL2 was ridiculous in terms of presentation, though, and that helps make it a close call.
Right now i am playing Ico cause i wanted something short to play, and a platformer/puzzler sounded nice. This is now my 3rd attempt at beating the game because previous attempts were stopped by new releases. Cant wait to finish this one.
HL1 > HL2, easily.
LoL I remember when I was a kid calling some store looking for Clash at Demonhead. Some asian dude answered. "Clash at the Demonhead?"
Anyway,
I'm pinball whoring it/ playing lots of demos to get me by until Castle Crashers comes out which will subsist me until DQ IV drops.
XBLA
Galaga Legions Demo
Pinball FX
BC Rearmed
Pac Man C.E. Demo
1942r Demo
Braid Demo
Saturn
Warriors of Fate II
Necronomicon Pinball
True Pinball
Last Gladiators
Wii
Williams Hall of Fame Pinball
Necronomicon is the only pinball game you really need.
Just finished FF IV. 38 hours total, which means I just spent 18+ hours over the past 3 days playing this game. And I'm really tempted to start the new game+ right now. This is seriously one of the three best RPGs ever made. Can't wait until next month when I get to play one of the other two on the DS as well.
http://www.ribaldyouth.com/pics/guycott.gif
I've always liked that his name was "Tom Guycot".
Um... I'm playing Treasure Hunter G right now. I was going to stop playing almost immediately after I started because it is incredibly ugly in parts with the pre-rendered artwork but besides that it's decent. I just finished Gokinjo Boukentai which was a lot of fun. Before these games I didn't really play anything for almost a year, so I'm thinking of picking up a dozen or so cheap sfc RPGs and playing them one after the other until 2010 or so.
FINALLY got around to playing through the single player of Call of Duty 4, and the Chernobyl stage just kept making me want to play through STALKER. So that's what I'm doing now, in preparation for Clear Sky in a few weeks. The thing may have traces of stupid eastern European bullshit design and bugginess, but goddamn if it doesn't have the best atmosphere ever.
I started up Pokemon Pearl about 2 weeks ago. I'm pretty glad I never got into anything past Red/Blue/Yellow, because I forgot how much of a Love/Hate relationship I have with this game, I'm not really having that much fun with the single player game, I only need one more badge for all 8 then onto the Eliete 4 or whatever they're called. The thing that gets me is I want to find all the pokemans, all 498. The thought crossed my mind to get an action replay to just hack the pokemon I want, but thats where my old PSO roots come in and I only want something legit. Fuck me.
Oh, and if anyone wants to give me some legendary/non-pearl pokemon, I will gladly take them off your hands, as soon as I figure out how to trade with friends on here.
I'm probably starting Stalker in a few days. What all is bullshit about the design, though? I've heard of situations where you can lose your inventory, but that doesn't really deter me.Quote:

Basically, think of the kind of bullshit Oblivion had and transfer it over. Just weird design decisions and bugs. The worst would be the weapons, which are stupidly inaccurate.
Luckily, just like Oblivion there are mods all over the place to fix things like that, in addition to some massive overhaul mods like Oblivion Lost, Stalker Weather Overhaul and Nuclear Snow. At the very least I'd recommend a mod that balances out the weapons, one that increases the weight you can carry, and maybe one that increases the quest time limit from 24 hours.
Generations of Chaos PSP. I want to love it but I can't.
If my memory serves me correctly, Clash at Demonhead was one of those games I worked so hard to get to the end, only to die and never want to touch it again.
I just finished FEAR on the 360, hopefully I can get Dark Sector finished up as well. It's not horrible but the constant one level above ground, next in the sewers is a bit annoying.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Rock Band. I just play the Pixies over and over. That's it.
BCR is really freaking hard. Even on Normal. And I suck at guitar on Rock Band.
