The inventor says that the thing is capable of flying way up, but they haven't let anyone do it yet because of control/display and safety issues.

I don't know what this is, but this is also sweet, even though probably fake. Edit: Sources tell me this may be a varation of the Bell Jetpack, which is actually a rocketpack. The only reason the Bell Jetpack was impractical was the super limited range, about 12 seconds of flight time.
More people need to look at this thread because it's totally awesome.

Apparently it can fly to 400 feet and above. That's not lame at all.
The first one sucks. You may as well just strap the dude to the outside of a helicopter and call that a jet pack.
Until we've got some kind of fail-safe for when the engine cuts out in mid air, that's pretty stupid.
Jetpacks = not practical until we've got some kind of "zero point" sort of propulsion system worked out.
Its still cool though.
You didn't read the article. It comes with a ballistic parachute in the machine just for when the engine cuts out in mid-air. Which is why the suggested cruising altitudes are either 10 feet, where you won't get hurt, or 300-400 feet, where the parachute is effective.Quote:
