Eh, if I remember correctly, the peak oil doomsayers have saying this was going to come in 2-3 years for the past 10 years.
if by "the end of makind" you mean "we adapt new energy technologies faster out of necessity", yes
the world economy will definitely suck for awhile, but it's nothing we won't bounce back from
Wah Wah Wah, don't forget America has like 100 billion barrels stored below the continental shelf for just this.
A Saudi Royal family insider blew the whistle last year that by generous estimates we have only spoiled about 18% of the world's oil potential. Not accounting for undiscovered reservoirs or oil wells which have mysteriously been seeping again. It was on the radio though so who knows what the fuck is going on.
