Are you fucking serious? I mean it's one thing to physically take the damn system away for a month or whatever, but this is just stupid.

While we are here, what is the most unusual punishment you got as a child?

When I was about 14, I took 5 dollars out of my parents money spot to go play video games uptown with my friends without asking them for it. Which was especially dumb because they would have probably given me 20.I felt really bad and being that I'm an idiot, I admitted it the same day even though they would have never found out. Furious, my dad then made me shovel horse shit at his buddies farm for 14 hours on a saturday. Let me tell you if you have never done it, it's awful. Think 3 feet of horse shit that requires a pick and a shovel to remove. It smells, there are like a billion flys, and the horses are assholes. When he picked me up that night he said "You like that type of work son?" of course I responded "no" then he replied "If you don't get an education and if you're not honest, this is what you will do 5 days a week the rest of your life". I learned my lesson.

I'd be interested to hear from people who grew up in very religious households like Nick as to what was considered punishment.

I don't know if you have kids or if you've helped raise kids, but there is a certain point as a parent when you do drastic shit if you can't get through to them.
You can't do what you used to for discipline.

Besides, I'm sure the parents can do what they want to considering they probably paid for the X-box in the first place.

I applaud the man. If they are good, he can buy them another xbox. If they are hard headed, kids will believe that they can get away with anything. I agree with FX. If you dont shock and awe every once in a while, you don't get through to them.

One Christmas many years ago... my brother received an electronic talking battleship. It wasn't out of the box an hour before he said something that pissed off my dad causing my dad to kick the thing and break it in half. Ahhh, the holidays.

I think breaking shit that is important to kids is a great way to get through to them, thumbs up to this dad with the Xbox.

My mom made me throw away 3500+ comic books in 8th grade. I gave it all to my friend. Kinda sucks but whatever.

Parents can be so fucking ignorant. I wonder whats said privately to the mom or dad in the inevitable moment 20-30 years in the future...

My father would take away power cords/supplies from my devices, and it worked rather well. Make a consequence about what'll happen if the behavior is repeated, and follow through with it. I'd end up sitting in my room grumpy with a bunch of cool toys that wouldn't turn on until I stopped acting like a baby. Learned my lesson.

Good on the parents for killing the Xbox. When parents make empty threats they never follow through on, kids learn that they can get away with whatever they want. If you say they'll get smacked if they do something again, seriously, just smack them next time. It works.

A friend down the street had something similar. His parents told him he'd never play his Nintendo again if he kept hitting his little brother. next time he hit the kid, the parents unplugged the Nintendo while he was playing, drove him to the children's hospital, and made him say he wanted to donate it to kids that deserved it.
