I just use a normal blender and work in batches. Fewer gadgets are better IMO.
I have used a wusthof gran prix II for about 8 years now as my primary knife, but I also have some cheap santoku knives as well. I remember reading that Global are some pretty decent affordable knives, although I haven't used them myself.
We've got the immersion instead of a standard blender. Waaaaay more versatile IMO.

Right off the bat this is what appeals to me the most. Although Advocate made a good point about the regular blender making for a finer blend, which is what I would probably want out of the gazpacho.Quote:

Personally, I only own a regular blender for my home, and only use about 4 pots/pans. 1 stock pot, 1 big cast iron, 12" sautee, and a 10" non-stick.
As far as construction, honestly, the real shit is outside of what you're looking to spend. There's a huge gap between This Gets The Job Done, and Actual Improvement In Performance.
Just go to Bed Bath and Beyond and grab the 4 pans.
Get a Blendtech. Best purchase I've made that wasn't a Japanese Telecaster clone in a long time.
Also, look in thrift stores for your pans. I got a cast iron fucker for $5.
Victorinox seconded. I bought the 10" fibrox chef knife. I think I paid $14 on amazon. I grab it before my expensive knives.
