How Much Do You Pay For Cell Service?

So, I've had my cell service exclusively with Verizon for the past 4 years. The reception is great, but they are expensive as fuck. I'm paying $60 a month for 450 minutes and unlimited messaging. I don't know what you guys are paying, but I think that's pretty fuckin expensive. Anyhow, I lost my phone last week. Some lady found it, and before I could give her my address or home phone, the battery died. Well, it seems like she must have just tossed the phone, because I haven't seen or heard anything else about it since then. Bitch.

Well, now is my time to reconsider other services. From what I understand, Verizon seems to have the best reception and network (regardless of where you live), but you pay a premium for it. What service are you guys using, and what are you paying per month? I'm considering switching over to T-Mobile, as I know it would be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Verizon, same plan as you. Can't say I have anything bad to say except they try to nickel and dime you any chance they get.

$65 a month for two lines with 700 minutes from Claro, the company that bought the Latin American share of Verizon.

AT&T Prepaid.

Free inside network calling
$1 a day + $0.10/min fee for anyone not AT&T/Cingular
$0.15 per text unless you buy a package.
$10-25 bonus per $100 used to refil account

I get by for $30 a month.

At&t because my phone requires it.

I'm somewhere near the 300 dollars a month neighborhood.

T-mobile:
1000 anytime, free night and weekends for $39.99 and then $15 a months for unlimited text.

It comes out to about $60 or so a month.

Tracfone prepaid. The model I bought also came with double minutes for life. I generally only buy 120 minutes, so now that comes out to 240 for $30.00 and I'm good for about 5 weeks.

How the fuck do you guys have prepaid cell phones? I thought they stopped making them..

I'm on a weird plan. Its essentially a prepaid one, (no real penalty for stopping my service, it just turns off ) but its got all the features of a regular plan midrange cell plan.

About 49.99 a month. 500 texts, 1000 whenever minutes, and free nights and weekends. Its complete overkill, but a total steal.

Thats the lowest family plan available. We dont even come close to using all 700 mins. I dont even think we use half of it.

I'm on Verizon, and my plan is supposed to be 39.99 with 750 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends. Plus 5 bucks a month for using mobile internet, 2 bucks for email, 3 dollars for that time a few weeks ago that I got lost and used the GPS application... I usually end up paying $60 when it's all said and done. Nickel and diming to death, indeed.

It beats the old Tracfone I had though. I don't use phones that much, and I was only paying like $20 a month with it, but I got sick of the cheap ass phones constantly breaking (even though I never used them) and the terrible Latin American customer service. I finally ditched them when I had a phone with like 500 minutes and a year of talktime left get deactivated for no apparent reason.

My first cell phone was with Sprint, I got 750 anytime minutes for 15 bucks a month like 8 years ago. Unfortunately my store stopped selling those phones, no more employee discount for me.

I think that's what we have + data plan and it comes out to $120 a month with all the extra nonsense they tack on. Verizon as well. Was on T-Mobile for years paying $43/month for one phone though. Verizon is definitely a premium.

At&T is what i use and my monthly plan includes 450 min monthly w/ 5000 night time minutes, roll over minutes and unlimited M2M minutes.

with misc charges like txt msg; i only pay about 45 bucks a month. Besides, i never use my 450 minutes any way, i use up about half of that, then the remaining 200 gets added to next month, so it works out for me.

Work pays for mine but I think it's like $40 a month for the 450 minutes with free nights and weekends and free inter network calls and 250 text messages per month.

$70 all told: 900 anytime Minutes, unlimited night & weekend minutes, unlimited mobile to mobile minutes, long distance, no roaming charges, iPhone unlimited data plan. Wow, I have a lot of rollover minutes I don't use:

I pay more than I like and I am getting extremely fucking tired of the whole thing. I've been thinking about going back to exclusively landline for awhile now.

The lowest minute plan Sprint offers. Something like 400 minutes for $40 and my wife and I share it.

I don't understand how people can talk on the phone so much. And texting is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.

I don't work for them directly, I work for whats know as an "authorized retailer" my store is locally owned by one person, and she's awesome to work for. Its not like that everywhere though. We have a pretty strong "were not asshole sales people" stance and don't do some of the slimy shit stores do, no do we have any insane quotas for the sales people causing some high pressure sales. Its not like this everywhere.

If you going to work in one of the Corporate owned stores in the "service" department, you never really do any technical work, your job will consist of firmware updating, and evaluation if a phone is in warranty, if it is, you swap it out from a stock of refurbished phones. You are not allowed to open the phones up in any way whatsoever.

I have the minimum voice plan, 1000 texts (which I use up every month) and the iPhone unlimited data plan. I have about 4000 rollover minutes because I never talk to anyone.

Whats your problems with text messages?

I have the Sprint SERO plan, which is supposed to be for employees but they used to let anyone sign up. $30, 500 min, unlimited data, 7pm nights and weekends, everything but texts pretty much. I'd never pay more than $30 or $40 for phone service. Some of your bills are nuts.

I'm with Sprint even though my whole family has Verizon, but I didn't even get a cell phone till about a year ago. I pay $29.99 a month for 200 minutes, no texting, nights at 7. I only go over it by a couple minutes every now and again.

I send Josh at least five texts a week to do my part.

Also, Wildkat, can you get me a replacement VX8700. My shit is fucked up and it's not even a whole year old. This thing crumbled apart.

I work for Verizon so I get 50% of my family share. Payment savings ftw.

Even with as good of coverage as verizon offers, I just don't think I can continue paying nearly $70 a month (after taxes) for minimal service. I think a switch to T-Mobile might be in order...

Napalm: T-Mobile actually does offer pretty solid coverage throughout most of the U.S., especially in all the major cities. It's those small rural areas where most people end up having issues.
