West Nile Virus claims first on LI

It was my grandfather. He's been estranged ever since my father was a child. After my grandmother died almost a year ago, my own father decided to seek him out or at least locate him.
They had begun to open lines of communication, we had a water heater burst recently and flood the basement, ruining a lot of our belongings. As fate would have it, the company sub-contracted by the insurance company to fix the damage, replace the heater and assess the claim was owned by none other than my grandfather, George H Cody.
It's a chilling thing, actually. I've only met him once, recently, and now just like that he's gone. It's been on the local news, NY news channels, etc. He was the first confirmed case and death of West Nile Virus. When I read the article at first I thought they meant MY dad, since all three of us share the same name.
I can't imagine how my dad must feel, never really having a cohesive set of parents, never really feeling like he was home, and now, within a year, he is without his parents having not known if he could have built a better relationship with either of them in their later years.
