I just got a call from my pal Shawn telling me that he's holding a MGS2 tournament at his house. He's been planning this for weeks now. The tournament consists of questions about the whole game(range from easy to hard), to multiple tasks(like reciting whole parts of the game), then finally the bread and butter: we'll have our PS2's side by side with our own TV's, and we'll see who can beat MGS2 first. The winner will get the MGS2 Trailer E3 DVD(I think he got it off of eBay) AND the European Edition(with additional content and modes not found in the U.S. rev). The items are his, in mint condition, and he'll gladly give them to the winner. There will be 10 contestants(all of which who know a hell of a lot about MGS2, supposedly), and are the hardest of the hardcore in terms of MGS2(think my level of insanity). I'm well-respected and revered about my insane MGS2 knowledge and skills, so this tournament should be a great place to show off. There will also be betting on who will win the tournament(I just hope I get a piece of the prize money!!). This is it boys, my calling; a MGS2 master is being summoned; it's time. Wish me luck. Let's rock.....


BTW, tournament is tomorrow. Let's get hot.

I'm so serious about this little thread subject kick I'm on Kasual. TNL is a place populated by very serious gamers. Lots of these gamers possess huge volumes of knowledge that I don't. I have limited amounts of time to stare at the friggin internet these days so I would like to cut to the chase and find new info being brought to light and topics of discussion that I fit into. People entitling their threads "Bring it on Bitches", "Worst. Story. Ever." or "You've lost that loving feeling etc" have me losing that loving feeling.

Humor and cleverness are two very special qualities and I'm glad that so many of us seem to possess them. Save 'em for your thread body please. There's plenty of time for bad jokes , cryptic wordplay and shockers that don't shock after someone knows they've found an intelligible subject that floats their boat.

Please feel free to point out any irony. That would be a great example of cleverness. :)

Seriously though, I recognize that 56kers watch their life drift away as they click on a thread only to find out it's about something completely gay like someone entering a Metal Gear trivia contest with the prize being a trailer for a game they already own and have won 150 times, and then have to get old waiting for that back button to load. But at the same time, I like witty thread titles (not that this is even close to being one), and I can't bring myself to get angry at somebody for not titling everything "official Metal Gear pedophile victim entrapment tactic thread" or whatever.

I'm NOT "angry" though. I just feel like I should mention this on occasion. Like once every day that I'm online. I also thank people for properly titling threads that I really wanted to post in. The PC Engine thread is a classic example of that.

If there's some way to get the point across and still display all that campy wit that's just bursting out, I'm all for that in a huge way. But titles that won't even lend the slightest hint as to their content always get the gas face.

Whether I waste <i>everyone's</i> time by posting multiple sentences and even small paragraphs on the issue or not. :p

Now, considering how insanely focused Zidane is on MGS:SOL is another thing altogether (hell, we would've figured you'd have started a new name by now after some variation of something MGS:SOL related), and this does get kinda creepy. After all, it's a trivia contest and a challenge. I could deal with the challenge just fine, I would even encourage you, but trivia as well?

Well, I can recite entire portions of the C:SotN script off the top of my head, but that's mainly due to the wonderfully over-the-top voices and script that make it such a joy to listen to most of the conversations. It was so crazy, I couldn't help but love it.

I'm sure if someone posted a Radiant Silvergun or Rez tournament, no matter how stupid it might be, you'd sign up in a second. Why? Because many of you feel strongly about those games, and it's the same for me. So what if you don't like MGS2; does that mean I can't participate in the tournament? Hell no! You want to be un-civil idiots and ridicule me when you know for sure you would do the same thing with a game that you love, then that's your problem. Imagine this:

A poster makes thread, after thread, after thread about REZ. Imaginary poster goes into other peoples threads (which aren't about REZ) and talks about REZ. He gets angry when people dissagree with him about REZ. He makes "joke's" about REZ. He gets angry when other people say they are sick of hearing about REZ.

Then lets imagine said poster makes a thread called "Bring it on bitches...", and it's about a REZ tournament he's going to be having. My guess is that people would have the exact same replies in this imaginary REZ thread as they did in this one.

Edit - As for reactions, there are some surly sonofabitches here, and that's kinda lousy, but I really don't think you should be too surprised, after what you dealt with last week, and all. You can express your love all you want, but other can express their distaste all they want, within reasonable limits.

As for thread titles, vague ones suck, but I'm not going to make a rule about it. I'd like to look into bringing back the "tagline" feature we had a couple of boards ago, but I don't know if the current feature supports it.

I don't think it's flaming as much as it is a few people finally having the balls to say "MGS2 is a crap fucking game and sooner or later you'll just have to come to terms with it. Obsession for the sake of obsession is never cool, as much as I'm sure you think it does, especially when it's something so, so terrible. Put down the shitty game, break it, and piss on it like the rest of humanity has, and go out and talk to a girl rather than pretending to be one and maybe you'll avoid turning into a lame-ass nerdy 40 year old who still can't quite figure out what's cool, and who hangs out at EB ALL DAY trying to tell the sales kid about how you went to Japan that one time and how their games are so much different than ours and how if you knew a little more Japanese (You'll constantly mention the fact that you know some. Some being 2 words worth) you'd go ahead and import Dragon Quest XXXVI because importing is COOL, or at least you think so, the kid really wants you to die a horrible death."

By the sound of the thread topic it sounded to me like you wanted to argue with people. That's the first thing I thought of when I saw that you started this thread. Hell, most of the threads you start end up like this.

Just to throw in my 2 cents, I think it would be nice if you didn't mention MGS2 in 90% of your posts, or the ever popular gimmick "I like it almost as much as MGS2 (and everyone KNOWS how much I like MGS2!)".

I didn't see my name on the good list so here I am reiterating: I did not flame you Zidane. I pointed out a flaw in your title but I still think that the tournament is a cool enough idea for a person who likes MGS2.

I know you're not reading this now but I had to clarify anyway. I'd hate to be thought of as being part of all the ganger uppers. I am on a one man crusade and honestly MGS2 or anyone's love for it (besides my little brother's, he's a nut) has never crossed my mind.

I didn't make any comments towards the games. I was making a comment about the attitude about the games, such as how if you dare say anything that might be percieved as spiteful towards those games you'll be told things like how it's everyone elses' board but yours. As much as I hate it I defended it as having it's place. I'm not going to apologize. I chose harsh words because I was perveying a harsh sentiment. Shmup humping is fine with me, as is 2D love, in moderation, like anything else. I hate too much of it just as I would expect someone to hate me if I talked too much about Shenmue. I don't need to cool my jets because they aren't hot, and the only reason I killed the negative post is because I wanted to be cool and not fan the flames any, since as I said I don't dislike Sleeve. I said I was done, and I am.

Well, I liked you, and I see nothing wrong with being in love with a game. I love DMC for example, but being totally obsessed with it, is not very healthy. I suggested you to spend more time playing other games, and that might have a benefitial effect on you. You dont have to start hating MGS2, just open your eyes on other things around you.

Um...please tell me you're being sarcastic. If not, at this point I'd suggest you may just be sick of it because you've won it 150 times, when it was really only meant to be played through once, maybe twice.

Personally, I don't care if you talk about the same game all the time. I just thought that a Metal Gear trivia and drama competition was the nerdiest thing I'd ever heard of, and I have almost 700 posts on a video game message board. I mean, if a bunch of guys sitting around playacting scenes from a gmae that's mostly a wussy guy getting pushed around by his girlfriend doesn't deserve being made fun of, what on God's green Earth does? If a bunch of guys got together and had a Rez trivia tournament and then had to reenact the soundtrack using only their mouths, I'd make fun of them too.

But I'm just messing with you. It's probably not a good life lesson to let people push you around to the point where they make you dislike your favourite thing. But you should probably stick to the part where you play other games too though, heh.
