So I recently installed a new video card (Sapphire Radeon HD 4870), and have just noticed that none of my video files will play back, regardless of format. I get audio, but a black screen.
I've updated my drivers, codecs, and still nothing.
Any ideas?
Which video player are you using?
Try Media Player Classic--you can change the overlay settings and see if something clicks. Not really a fix for your problem, but at least you can watch videos.
You're using K-Lite Codec Pack with Media Player Classic, I assume?
Try VLC player which generally can play anything, and if you still get nothing try using Omega Radeon drivers.
I'm using the latest K-Lite pack. Video won't play in VLC, WMP, MPC, Zune, iTunes.
Will try those omega drivers.
edit: The omega site doesn't list the Radeon HD4k series as supported, am I being a pussy if I'm too scared to try them?
Running Vista or XP?
You may want to uninstall the codecs and reinstall them.
Dyne - I'm on XP SP2.
Error - I've done this, to no avail.
It's weird - Games, embedded video in browser (flash mostly) work fine.
is hardware acceleration on or off
(right-click desktop->properties -> settings -> advanced -> troubleshoot)
Flash and games don't use overlay. Do some Googling with your card name and "video overlay" to see if anyone's dealt with similar problems (likely they have). It's not to do with codecs or anything, it's a video card issue. See if VLC lets you change the overlay settings. Could be an OpenGL issue.Quote:
