Lifted from the PS2 Shinobi intro?
our protag here even jumps out of a helicopter
reserving judgement for tgs footage, even though it looks like the most generic ninja game ever

The last gameplay vid looks awesome. Japan will be seeing this one at the end of January 2009, no western release date yet.
edit: It might be my inet acting up right now, but just to be sure let the vid load 100% and then play it, otherwise you might think the game gets bugged down with "hick ups".
so it's the combination of ninja gaiden, shinobi ps2, and star wars the force unleashed
ehh, might be neat for a runthrough or two
It looks like QTE hell, which was one thing I really appreciated being nonexistent in Ninja Gaiden.
So why is Otogi good again?
After Metal Wolf Chaos (awful outside of the theme and cutscenes), the recent non-Acquire Tenchu games, and my five minutes of indifference to Otogi 2, I just can't write off From Software, for whatever reason. And I find that I'm absolutely in love with Armored Core for Answer.
So someone tell me why I should put more than five minutes into Otogi.
Hey, if you don't like it, you don't like it. It's okay. Personally, I think it's an excellent action game with great atmosphere, mood, and a tragic back story. I really disliked the timer for each level, though. It prevents you from really enjoying and exploring the levels more.
My thoughts exactly. The atmosphere was perfect, felt ancient and all, but that timer bleh, odd thing to do with a game like that. I really hope Ninja Blaiden doesn't have it though.
Will keep an eye out for it, it's one of those games I want to play but will have a hard time paying the full price for it. Wait and see I guess...
Ninja Blade demo hits Japanese Marketplace
If you have a Japanese Live Account you can get it.
Oh goodie, QTE's.
An ass ton of QTE's... what fun.
EDIT: Finished demo impressions: MEH.
It's weird. I normally complain about QTEs but I found them pretty cool in this demo; they remind me of old laserdisc-style QTEs (in a good way) more than most modern ones for some reason. The boss battle felt pretty epic and I love the running speed. I had hardly any interest in this before given I'm not a big From Software fan but now I plan on picking this up eventually.
I'd pick it up for 20 dollars or less. I didn't feel that it was a bad game, but I have alot of single player games to keep me satisfied till it hits the price that I want it for.
I hated it.
If its like 20 bucks I MIGHT consider picking it up.
I liked the demo for some reason. I will get this in like two months when it's like 15 dollars used.
why put qte's in (granted they show you doing awesome shit all the time) when if you fail you can simply immediately try again? What's the point?
Badass-looking, barely interactive, and little to no punishment for failure?
This is like the ultimate Modern Game.
Too much QTEs, and not in a good way. Fighting boss via QTE is like a copout IMO.
Best use of QTE in a game is Bourne Conspiracy.
I enjoyed the demo when I got it, but felt no need to run through it more than once. I thought the QTEs were fun, but then again I usually enjoy QTEs. As much as I enjoyed it, I'm joining the club of waiting until it drops also.
I hated the demo. The QTEs are dumb, and the action made me want to play Ninja Gaiden 2 instead. The hero looks stupid as well.
Picked this up today, I'm already up to the fifth mission (apparently only 9), and I have enjoyed the hell out of this game. Got about 5 hours on it, I really like the combat it has a good flow to it and lots of upgradable combos and powers and the such. More accesable for me than Ninja Gaiden 2, where I couldn't get past the 8th mission and sold it because I was too pissed off at Acolyte mission 8 destroying me. I really like the QTE shit, it's pretty fun and in some situations can change what happens at that moment in the level if you do it right or not. Game looks great too. And I'd say it's worth it for the boss battles alone. So far at least two bosses per level, all fun and intriguing and when you finally beat them it feels nice cuz some are easy (how is the final boss on level 4 a thousand times easier than the level 1 mini boss?) and some are kinda challenging, but each one ends with a bang. I got it for $50 used today, and I'm not at all unhappy with my purchase. It plays well, looks great, and is just over the top fun.
That being said, I don't know that I'll want to play through it a second time on the harder difficulties just for the achievements. Still a VERY fun game to play.
Got this for $14 new on teh 'bay and I enjoy it. It's good cheeseball fun like Bulletwitch.
The 4th mission where you have to babysit the plane is pissing me off though.
It never gets old does it?
Not yet.
I agree.
Lol, fuck that I can't rep you right now Yoshi.
Picked this up for 20 dollars. I like it so far, good cheesy fun. The QTEs aren't too annoying and the combat is pretty fluid. The costume changes are hilarious, I have been rocking the clown outfit and it's silly as shit. There is free DLC for this game with a whole bunch of costumes if you don't feel like looking for them in each level.
It's on sale for $17.99 at Gamefly. Should I get it?
Yes, it's a good romp, quite fun for what it is, looks pretty, and EASY gamerscore. I was happy with it for $50.
Too late now.
$5.99 on Amazon.com folks....I liked the demo a lot so I'm buying this.
It's worth the $6. Way better than ninja gaiden 3. Just be warned half the game is QTEs
Yeah the demo had a good amount of it, not really a huge issue for me though since I didn't mind the way it did it too much and if you can stomach the God of War QTE's this shouldn't be too bad.
Interestingly enough I liked the Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge demo and that game is really brutal with it's difficulty so I may check that out when it hits $20 or something.
The OG version of Ninja Gaiden 3 was mind numbingly easy. Hold up on the analog stick and mash the X button ALL DAY LONG.
My memory is a little hazy, but I recall the player character in NG3 morphing from a ninja into a cloud of blood and staying that way for the rest of the game.
I'm up to Mission 7 and a couple of things to note:
- Install the game IMMEDIATELY, it runs pretty badly streaming off the disc especially some the cut scenes. The game also locked up on me a few times before the install but after installing I haven't had any problems.
- Customizing the main costume is pretty rad, did a few neat alternate costumes.
- Not being able to save mid-mission really sucks, they can be reeeeally long.
- Combat is fun and the QTE scenes, while pretty extensive, haven't really bothered me that much unless it's a long chain and I mess up. The shoot-em-up levels also add a nice dash of variety.
- The game has a bit of an irreverent attitude in terms of overall feel which makes it all the more amusing, I especially found Kuroh's "Whatever, I'll see you kids on the ground" dialogue entertaining after a serious intro speech.
- Of course in typical fashion they kill the black guy early which is lame but I'm not surprised.
I've been meaning to play this lately. Wondering if the PC port has any real issues, but will probably play it either way since that's the version I have.
It's pretty bad:

Just get it for Xbox for $6 and install it onto the HD to resolve some performance issues, can't go wrong there.
Eh, it sounds like the extent of the issues are cutscene-related. I think I'll risk it for the 1080p and 60fps.
The control issues are non-issues because why would anybody use keyboard+mouse over a 360 pad for this?
Btw, shipping is $3.99 in that Amazon link. You can get it a couple bucks cheaper directly from Gohastings' website, shipping is $2.28.
I guess I'm just a stickler for all around stuff but yeah the upped resolution and the 360 pad will make the game a lot nicer.
Either way, cheap stuff!
Made a sweet new ninja outfit today:

I ordered this for the cheap today also. Very nice.
Thanks!
I think you'll enjoy it, although the combat will take some getting used to but once you upgrade it's all gravy.
The best part of that review video was "as rare as an attractive feminist." Awesome.
Hmm, I upgraded all the weapons and ninjitsu and didn't get the achievement for neither.
Has anyone had that issue?
(play Mark of the Ninja what are you doing)
Yeah I have to get to that.
BTW found an achievement guide. Some achievements like the weapons ones require harder playthroughs and collecting other items.
Mark of the Ninja is in this week's Humble Weekly Bundle.
I have it on 360.
Nice!
My $5.99 copy arrived in the mail today. Looking forward to playing it over the holiday. Can't complain about the price.
Mine still had the $39.99 price sticker on it, lol.
Got mine yesterday also. Played through one mission. I liked what I played. It's feels more Ninja Gaiden than Ninja Gaiden 3. Lol.
It's at GMG on PC for 2 bucks right now, but I guess the PC version is bad?
I uninstalled it and I don't remember everything exactly, but I remember it still trying to prefer 720p (which actually is better anyway because stuff that was clearly meant to be obscured no longer is if you go higher), the QTEs simultaneously displayed kb&m and gamepad inputs at the same time which is really distracting, all the menus still refer to things like "Don't turn off your console while saving" and all that jazz, and so on. I didn't play it on console so I don't if it's different there but there's a ton of graphical glitches like where the guy is supposed to grab onto poles to swing and instead just grabs onto the air like five feet away and swings through the pole, so it looks sloppy in pretty much every way. There's a so-bad-it's-good game hiding in there, but the actual problems ended up drowning my enjoyment of the silly QTEs and wacky mechanics.
