I think you misinterpreted the latinoreview story. The concept art is just now being released to the public, but it was created last year before the script, which is done.

On the eve of the film's release, "Babylon" helmer Mathieu Kassovitz publicly claimed the studio ruined his longtime passion project. "Wolverine" helmer Gavin Hood was nearly fired, according to sources, because of squabbles with the studio, and two backup directors were in place before Richard Donner -- who is married to the film's producer Lauren Shuler Donner -- flew to the Australian set to smooth things over. At the time, Fox insisted that Richard Donner was on-set because he is a producer on the film. However, current credits for the film list various producers, but Donner is not one of them.

The third incarnation has a title, "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," but no script.

Diesel had bowed out of an encore, but it is also believed that his salary quote had gotten too expensive for a modestly successful picture.

Diesel also bowed out of a starring role in the first sequel to "The Fast and the Furious" — "2 Fast 2 Furious" — opting for a cameo in that pic. He skipped the third pic, "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," but will reteam with original co-star Paul Walker in the franchise’s fourth go-round, "Fast & Furious," which Universal will release June 12.

The move to reinstate Diesel in his Gen X James Bond vehicle underscores the appetite of studios for potential tentpole franchises. Though Diesel didn’t score in the recently released "Babylon A.D.," sources said other studios are waiting in the wings to make the sequel if Col doesn’t.

I don't think the writer of this article saw any of the Fast & Furious sequels because Vin made a cameo appearance in the third movie, not the second.

Since Babylon A.D. tanked, I think Vin is trying to get back into the action business with the films that started his rise in popularity to begin with. With another Fast & Furious flick hitting next year, and now talks of another xXx movie, Vin seems to be going in the right direction to make him a hot commodity again.

I don't mind this at all. Hollywood is starving for action stars right now, especially since The Rock decided to fucking abandon ass kicking action roles and do family comedies. Are there any action heroes left in Hollywood that can kick some ass on screen? No, I'm not talking about super heroes, so calm down with the Batman bullshit. I'm talking about good 'ol American fight scenes and explosions. I thought Steve Austin had a chance, but I guess I was the only one that thought The Condemned wasn't half bad. Michael Jai White, if you've ever seen Undisputed II, more than proves that he can fuck people up in a movie. Undisputed II was actually a pretty good martial arts flick, so go find it in a video store. Yes, I'm chicken walking in this conversation, so help me out here. Who is left in Hollywood that can fill the action void besides Jason Statham and Tony Jaa?

They need to stop cloning dogs and get to cloning Burt Lancaster, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and Yul Brynner.

Paramount and Marvel reach deal.

Marvel's Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Jon Favreau, was distributed by Paramount earlier this year and was one of the top films of 2008. The DVD, including a version in Blu-ray, will be released on September 30, 2008.

Ramona - given release date of July 2, 2010.

Whew, well, this should help FOX avoid another dismal summer like 2008. They've also got some biggies lined up for the summer - X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs - that will be well rounded out by the releases above.
2009 is definitely lining up to be a banner year at 20th Century Fox!

Zack Efron, announced for Kevin Bacon's role back in July, is still the lead. NOLAN: It’s funny, I’ve been asked a lot about the politics of the film. I dismiss all such analogies [laughs]. It really isn’t something we think about as we put the story together, myself, David Goyer and Jonathan [Nolan, brother of the director]. But I would point to the interrogation scene with Batman and the Joker — not that there is a specific political point, per se — but that I was interested in getting the actors to explore a paradox: How do you fight somebody who essentially thrives on aggression?

GB: I winced when I read a lot of the political messaging that people said they detected in your film. I think a lot of that says more about my industry than it does yours.

NOLAN: [Laughs] "Yes, you may be right."

GB: It seems to me that, more often than not in a genre such as the one you’re working in, most of the political messaging has more to do with the viewer than the filmmaker. It’s inferred, not implied.

NOLAN: I agree completely. Especially if you do it right. If you’re working in a genre that is heightened reality. I like to talk about these films as having an operatic quality or being on a grand scale and a bit removed from the rhythms of real life, no matter how realistic we try to make the scenes themselves. In this scene, for instance, we went for the gritty realism in the textures of it, but it is a heightened reality. We’re trying to work on a more universal scale. If you get that right, people are going to be able to bring a wide variety of interpretations to it depending on who they are. It’s allowing the characters to be a conduit to the audience. Allowing an audience to sit there and relate to Batman and his dilemma whether they are Republican or Democrat or whatever. ...

GB: "The Dark Knight" is closing in on $1 billion. How do you get your arms around that kind of success?

NOLAN: I can’t get my arms around it, to be quite frank. It’s mystifying. It’s terrific but at the same time it’s a little abstract, the numbers are so big. The biggest thrill for me would be, with the number of people who have gone to see the film, how "The Dark Knight" stood on the shoulders of the first film, how we were able to build the audience up and build the story up from the first film. That was really exciting to see. We were all pretty happy with the performance of the first film but so we really didn’t know, "Where does it go from there?" For it to become such a phenomenon is extraordinarily gratifying. I mean, I’ve spent now like six years or something working on Batman films. It becomes an important part of your life; you become very obsessive about it, and it's pretty fun when there are other people sharing your obsession and going to see the film a dozen times or whatever.
Wrapping your arms around the scale of the success, as you ask, I don’t find that possible really. There’s something liberating in knowing that my next film, whatever it is, isn’t going to make as much money [laughter]. I don’t have to try for years.

GB: As far as a follow-up, have you considered "Batman and the Mystery of the Titanic"?

NOLAN: I think you may be right, that might be the way to go.

GB: Watching "The Dark Knight," it’s very easy to imagine the Joker returning to Gotham, the way his fate remains unresolved. When you were writing the film, did you anticipate that the Joker would be back in the third film?

NOLAN: No, really and in truth, I only deal with one film at a time. I find myself sort of protesting this issue a lot. We’ve never attempted to save anything for a sequel or set up anything for a sequel. That seems improbable to some people because, particularly with "Batman Begins," the film ended with a particular hook [with Jim Gordon showing Batman a Joker playing card announcing the arrival of a new villain in town]. But for me that was just about the excitement of people leaving the theater with the sense that now we have the character up and running. I wanted people to walk away with that sense in their head. You know, that he’s become the Batman in the movie. That’s why we had the title come up at the end, because it was "Batman Begins," and it was all very specific to that.
Then I got excited about seeing where that character would go. It was planned in advance, but it followed in that way. But we tried our hardest to really do everything in this movie that we would want to see the Joker do and to get that in the fabric of the story as much as possible. We wanted the Joker’s final taunt to Batman to be that they are locked in an ongoing struggle because of Batman’s rules. There’s a paradox there. Batman won’t kill. And the Joker is not interested in completely defeating Batman because he’s fascinated by him and he enjoys sparring with him. It’s trapped both of them. That was really the meaning of it. Of course what happened is Heath created the most extraordinary character that you would love to see 10 movies about. That’s the bittersweet thing. It was incredible characterization. It is a bittersweet thing for all of us.

GB: After the massive, military-level operation of making "Dark Knight," is there part of you leaning toward a smaller, more nimble sort of production next?

NOLAN: On one hand, yeah, there is a certain feeling to do that. After "Batman Begins," I certainly felt like taking on something smaller, but one of the things I got such a thrill from on "The Dark Knight" was shooting on Imax and creating that massive scale and achieving that larger-than-life quality. So that’s a lot of fun. I’m drawn in both directions now. So maybe what I need to do next is a very intimate, small story that happens to be photographed on a ridiculously large scale. Or vice versa [laughs].

GB: I’m not sure I even know what that means.

NOLAN: Yes, I don’t know what it means either [laughter]. But really what I know is that it’s about story at the end of the day. ... But I do feel there is this tug to do big scale and small scale, so I don’t know. ...

GB: Maybe you need to make a small story in a huge place. "My Dinner With Andre" at the top of Mt. Everest.

NOLAN: Or in outer space. That might work.

Fox is bringing "Romancing the Stone" to the big screen again, swinging into development a remake of the 1984 adventure movie and tapping Daniel McDermott to write it.

The original movie helped launch Robert Zemeckis as a director, turned Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito -- then best known for their TV work -- into film stars and established Kathleen Turner as a romantic lead.

Written by Diane Thomas, "Romancing" told the story of a repressed romance novelist who travels to Colombia to find her missing sister only to meet up with an American soldier of fortune. The two embark on a cross-country adventure involving a map, a jewel and a private police force. Thomas wrote the script while working as a waitress in Malibu. It turned out to be her only produced screenplay; she died in a car crash the year after the film's release.

No producers are attached to the remake.

McDermott, a former head of DreamWorks Television who segued to screenwriting, most recently co-wrote the DreamWorks thriller "Eagle Eye." He is developing a contemporary adventure movie for Tom Cruise at UA titled "Adventurer's Club" and working on a remake of "Soylent Green" for Warner Bros.

McDermott, repped by UTA and Media Talent Group, also created and executive produced the Lifetime drama "Angela's Eyes."

"They Live" is finding life again.

John Carpenter's cult 1988 film is getting the remake treatment from Universal and studio-based Strike Entertainment, which are in negotiations to acquire the film rights with rights holder Les Mougins.

Strike's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce, while Shep Gordon of Les Mougins and Carpenter will serve as executive producers.

The original film, part sci-fi thriller and part social satire, told the story of a down-on-his-luck construction worker (Roddy Piper) who discovers glasses that let him see aliens walking among us and controlling humanity. The man races against the clock to find a way to stop them.

The movie is known for a fight scene that lasts 51⁄22 minutes and for the line, "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum."

No writer is on board.

Gordon, an entrepreneur and music impresario who worked with Alice Cooper and Blondie, holds the rights, having financed the film as part of a multipicture deal with Carpenter that also included "Prince of Darkness" and "Village of the Damned." Universal distributed the film as part of an output deal Gordon constructed.

Strike, whose credits include "Bring It On" and "Children of Men," had success in the remake arena with 2004's update of "Dawn of the Dead." Strike is also working on a remake of Carpenter's "The Thing."

Now this is just getting silly. Here's the article on that one:

Russell Brand might soon be caught between the moon and New York City.

The British comedian is developing a remake of "Arthur," the 1981 comedy that starred Dudley Moore, for Warner Bros. as a potential starring vehicle.

Brand is meeting with scribes to write the screenplay, which will be produced by MBST's Larry Brezner, whose credits range from "Good Morning, Vietnam" to HBO's recent "Little Britain USA."

The original movie followed a boozy playboy rascal who is set to inherit a fortune if he marries an heiress his family thinks will make something out of him. However, he falls in love with a working-class woman and turns to his valet for help when his family makes him choose between money and love.

Moore was nominated for an Oscar as was Steve Gordon, the film's writer-director. John Gielgud, who played the valet, won the best supporting actor Oscar, and the movie's theme song, "The Best That You Can Do," won for original song.

Sarah Schechter is overseeing for Warners.

Brand already has a rascally reputation, not only for his past sex-, drugs- and alcohol-infused lifestyle but also for on-air radio pranks that recently led him to being suspended by the BBC. He subsequently resigned.

American audiences got their first taste of Brand in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," in which he played a rock star lothario. He next appears with Adam Sandler in "Bedtime Stories," which opens on Christmas Day. The Endeavor-repped actor is filming Julie Taymor's adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and will reunite his "Marshall" co-horts for "Get Him to the Greek."

Author Winston Groom’s follow-up novel Gump and Co. was released in 1995, which follows Forrest as he stumbled through important US events in the 1980s and early 1990s. According to Wikipedia, Gump plays football for the New Orleans Saints, sells encyclopedias door-to-door, works on a pig farm, and helps develop the infamous New Coke. He accidentally crashes the Exxon Valdez, helps destroy the Berlin Wall, fights in Operation Desert Storm and meets many celebrities along the way including: Colonel Oliver North, the Ayatollah Khomeini, John Hinckley, Jim Bakker, Ivan Boesky, Ronald Reagan, Saddam Hussein, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Tom Hanks.

Frank Miller and Odd Lot Entertainment, the creator and production company behind the upcoming comic-book adventure "The Spirit," are close to teaming again on the classic sci-fi property "Buck Rogers."

Odd Lot, the shingle run by Gigi Pritzker and Deborah Del Prete, is in negotiations to option the rights to "Rogers" from Nu Image/Millennium, which obtained those rights this year from the Dille Trust. Millennium is expected to get a credit on the movie but won't be involved in day-to-day production.

John Flint Dille, a friend of Miller's, operates the trust, which may have partly prompted rumors at the time of the Millennium acquisition that the comic auteur-turned-filmmaker might come aboard to direct. But Miller was not attached at the time; he only became involved when Odd Lot entered the picture.

Miller will write and direct his own big-screen take on the comic serial; while the creator has only begun to sketch ideas, it's expected to be a darker take, with many of Miller's signature visual elements and themes, such as corruption and redemption.

It's likely to be a priority project for Miller, though he has been mulling a "Sin City" sequel.

One of the first pop-culture vehicles to tackle the issue of space exploration, the story of Buck Rogers began life as a comic serial in the late 1920's and early '30's and has seen numerous film and television versions over the years.

ABC had a TV series in the '50s, and NBC produced a feature film and TV series in the late '70s and early '80s, which imagined the space explorer as someone who woke up in the 25th century to find Earth destroyed and was then consigned to roam distant planets.

The party that controls the underlying rights has the ability to make any movie of television series off the property. At the moment, Odd Lot is planning only on a feature film.

Miller is the acclaimed writer and illustrator behind the graphic novel franchise "Sin City," which became a hit for the Weinstein Co. in 2004. He also is behind Warners breakout "300." "The Spirit," which Lionsgate releases next week, examines the pulpy hero created by Miller mentor Will Eisner.

By the way, if you're thinking of picking up MW2 for Christmas or something, the night vision goggles that come with THE "PRESTIGE" VERSION AVAILABLE HERE actually work pretty well! Their range isn't particularly great, but they're really pretty nice in tighter environs.

Hmmm, FROST ROAD. If FURY ROAD actually happens, I wonder if people will confuse it with this?

Columbia Pictures is negotiating with the "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs" helming team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct "21 Jump Street," the pic based on the TV series that launched Johnny Depp.
The film, about a group of baby-faced cops who go undercover at high schools, has been guided by Jonah Hill and Mike Bacall, who hatched the story together. Bacall wrote the script and Hill, will star in the film and be its exec producer.

The result was 6 studios all very interested in domestic distribution rights to Rodriguez' latest -- Sony, Lionsgate, Warner Bros, Fox, Paramount, and The Weinstein Co. Rodriguez had made the fake trailer into a real movie outside the studio system. With help from Rick Schwartz's Overnight Productions, Rodriquez indie financed Machete with $20 million from selling international rights to Sony and making some other global sales and another $5 million he borrowed. Rodriguez not only wrote and produced the pic but he also co-directed it with Ethan Maniquis. It stars an eclectic cast to put it mildly of Robert De Niro, Lost's Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, and Danny Trejo. With the picture now in the editing room, Rodriguez and his longtime agent WME's Robert Newman (who's been there from the start of the writer-director's career) decided to look for domestic distribution.

All six interested studios screened about 15 to 30 minutes of footage. Newman's proposal was for $9 million upfront, no P&A commitment but the guarantee of a wide release, and a big backend gross participation for Rodriguez. (I'm told in the 10%-12% neighborhood.) Both Fox and Paramount said yes, and then, in an unusual move, Newman went back to the two studios and asked for more gross percentage and an overall production deal for Rodriguez.

Paramount balked, so did Fox. But Fox reminded everyone that it was already very much in the Robert Rodriguez business making Predators, and Tom Rothman really wanted him to have a home there, and Rodriguez and Rothman get along well, so a deal was clinched.

Which leads me to one of the most interesting aspects of this behind-the-scenes. Since The Weinstein Co had first-look on Machete, why didn't it do the deal? After all, when Harvey and Bob started their successor company to Miramax, they did it on the back of their longtime relationships with Tarantino and Rodriguez. And they're making Spy Kids 4 with Robert. "I really don't know why. That's for Harvey to answer," one insider tells me. Rival studios are speculating TWC couldnt come up with the $9M. Yet a Weinstein Co insider claims it could have scooped up the pic for just $3.5M but didn't because "we saw the footage and it's not very good at all." Sounds like sour grapes amid the indie studio's layoffs, pic pushbacks, and overall money woes. (See Weinstein Co Gets "New Lease On Life"?)

Well, that certainly makes it clear now more than ever that the Weinsteins wont be Rodriguez' filmmaking base anymore. And that his new home of Fox just fucked with the right Mexican.

Bird has been trying to crack the screenplay for his live-action debut 1906, which is set up at Warner Bros. The film has been in development heck since the recession hit, and the three studios involved started to grow worried that the $200 million projected budget which would be required to film Bird’s expansive story might be too much of a risk. Brad has been trying to rework his screenplay, trying to bring the film’s budget down by minimizing the scale of the film.
I’m very excited to see Bird tackle a live action film, and Paramount needs a director yesterday as the movie is gearing up for a Summer 2010 start to meet the announced May 27th 2011 release date.
Ethan Hunt will be the main star of the film, but the new sequel is being looked at as a “reboot” to the series. Here is what we know so far: Tom and JJ developted”a really cool idea” for a fourth adventure, which Abrams turned into “an insanely long outline”. Abrams employed Alias‘ scribes Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec to write a screenplay based on the treatment, which Abrams once joked “is probably longer than the script.” Applebaum and Nemec were well into the second act of a first draft when we last checked in (mid-January 2010), and Abrams seemed very pumped on the project. But who should direct?

In the IESB piece, they back up their source by informing readers that they broke the news of Revenge of the Sith’s PG-13 rating, the live action TV show as well as The Clone Wars show. They believe that’s enough to substantiate the rumor.


Specifically, they report that while working on the 3D conversions of the new films, which will begin in 2012 with Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Lucas “has gotten the itch.” He has “gotten motivated with the success the Clone Wars animated series, the video games and also with the success of Avatar.”


The sequels, not prequels, would not focus on the Skywalkers, but instead be set in the future. Same universe, but totally different story. By doing this, Lucas doesn’t have to fit pieces into a puzzle like he had to do with the prequels. And he has stated that that process was creatively constricting to him.


So, apparently, his plan is work on all the 3D movies, make several hundred million more dollars, then use that money to make new movies – hopefully releasing the first one within a year or two of the Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi 3D release would would be in like 2017.


We know. This rumor is crazy. And we only report it as a rumor because it’s such a juicy one and it keeps coming up. But, one time, it’s bound to be true, right?

So, be sure to file this rumor under “just in case,” but IESB – who has been known to have connections at Lucasfilm in the past – is currently reporting that Lucas is “plotting to create” new Star Wars movies which would be released after the six three 3D re-releases and would take place far in the future, not relating to the Skywalkers. “This is, of course, completely false,” Lucasfilm spokesman Josh Kushins wrote to Wired. “George Lucas has plenty of projects to keep him busy right now — including plenty of Star Wars projects — but there are no new Star Wars feature films planned.”

What are they going to say, though, right? “Damn it. You got us. George Lucas has a whole new pair of trilogies being planned for later this decade.” Let’s be serious. Whether or not this rumor is true or false, Lucasfilm has to deny it.


In the IESB piece, they back up their source by informing readers that they broke the news of Revenge of the Sith’s PG-13 rating, the live action TV show as well as The Clone Wars show. They believe that’s enough to substantiate the rumor.


Specifically, they report that while working on the 3D conversions of the new films, which will begin in 2012 with Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Lucas “has gotten the itch.” He has “gotten motivated with the success the Clone Wars animated series, the video games and also with the success of Avatar.”


The sequels, not prequels, would not focus on the Skywalkers, but instead be set in the future. Same universe, but totally different story. By doing this, Lucas doesn’t have to fit pieces into a puzzle like he had to do with the prequels. And he has stated that that process was creatively constricting to him.


So, apparently, his plan is work on all the 3D movies, make several hundred million more dollars, then use that money to make new movies – hopefully releasing the first one within a year or two of the Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi 3D release would would be in like 2017.


We know. This rumor is crazy. And we only report it as a rumor because it’s such a juicy one and it keeps coming up. But, one time, it’s bound to be true, right?
