In Quest for Glory I spent days 'climb tree' on the tree outside of the main town gate to level.
I think I broke part 2 because my guy was overleveled. I only played these a little though compared to the other quest games.

To promote Project Fedora, all Tex Murphy games are 50% off for the next 4 days. Both Under a Killing Moon and Pandora Directive are considered to be 2 of the best adventure games ever by many (beyond just myself), so at $5 a pop, you'd do well to give them a shot.
I tried playing Mean Streets a couple weeks ago. "Steep learning curve" doesn't begin to describe it. I'll give it another go once I print out all the instructions (since you pretty much need them), and then proceed from there.
Thanks for the advice. You're as cheap as your suit.
I bought them last time they were on sale. I'll give it a go after I finish Post Mortem.
No, that was pretty much my experience with Mean Streets. I had no idea what to do, so I kept giving this very stereotypical Asian lady money, and she kept calling me cheap. According to the Internet, I need coordinates and other such info from the instructions. So I'll print it all out later and try again.
As a young lad gaming on an NES, the most complicated interfaces I ever had to deal with were in games like Shadowgate. This probably would have made me cry.
GOG really is the best download service ever.
Those two Ultima games have never been re-released. Consequently, they are the only two I do not own. I would have happily forked out $6 or even $10 for these, and they put them up for FREE!
Also: this is like GameFAQs, but not terrible!
OH SHIT.
KING OF DRAGON PASS ON GOG.
Bought it on iOS already*! It seems really awesome but it's a little intimidating.
*because the iOS port seemed to be an improvement over the original. Not to mention that the original wasn't for sale anyway.
GOG is having a Telltale sale this weekend. Sam & Max S3, Wallace & Gromit, Back to the Future for sale at Significantly Reduced Prices.
Need some old Interplay games?
http://www.gog.com/interplay?pp=4d89...3ffb3ef5303122
Whoa! Time to finally play Shogo.
It's rad.
I heard it's hard as fuck.
GOG rules, BTW. I've been introduced to so many wonderful, cheap games there.
Is Bioforge any good or do the tanky controls ruin it like Alone in the Dark or Little Big Adventure?
LBA RULES YOU TWIT.
Maybe it ruled 89238234 years ago but NOT ANYMORE. I tried to love it!
edit: See post 208 in this very thread for proof!
Nigga pls, Ed played the Blackwell games before you ever heard of them.
Speaking of which, the fourth is in the latest Indie Royale. It and Reprisal make that bundle well worth getting, especially if you picked up the first three in one of the prior bundles.
I really hope they expand the Mac selection. Icewind Dale pls.
Good Old Shoes?
There's been some movement on a GOG release of System Shock 2, OMG.
The source of the rumor is a little convoluted so I'll just link to the thread I found:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthre...=506569&page=5
Start with post 240.
If you haven't played it yet, SS2 is one of the all-time greats. God I love GOG for sorting out the legal clusterfuck around the distribution rights. Lucasarts next pls.
Do want now
Great news about System Shock 2...it's only been at the top of their most-wanted list for, like, ever. What exactly are the legal issues that have been holding it up?
It took some work, but I have SS2 working on my XP PC (I scored a mint CD/guidebook combo on EBay for next to nothing last year). However, if GOG puts it out I'd totally buy it, especially for whatever extras they end up releasing with it.
If GOG could find a way to put out a SS1&SS2 bundle, that would be awesome.
Even when Looking Glass was still around, the System Shock 2 rights were a mess. They set it up so that a new SS release would have to be approved by EA as well as Looking Glass. When, LG died, their portion of the rights was picked up by some insurance company which had 0 interest in videogame distribution. But they knew enough to realize that it was a popular property so they kept holding out for a reportedly huge amount of money.

I'm not sure what's going on with System Shock 1. I still haven't played it!
GOG's selling Daikatana now. lol.
http://www.gog.com/gamecard/daikatana
Google "System Shock Portable." Some guys made a version of SS that's compatible with modern operating systems and adds new options like higher-res textures and mouselook.
I found my real copy of Daikatana. I totally forgot the main characters were Hiro Miyamoto, Mikiko Ebihara, and SUPERFLY JOHNSON.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/att...7&d=1360719255
Never played it. But the utter stupidity of those two AI sidekicks is legendary.
Shame...the one dude IS named Superfly Johnson, after all. Probably the pimpest name after Dolemite and John Shaft.
This is back in the day when racism in games was acceptable. Hell, it was the main selling point of Shadow Warrior.
Sadly, Superfly does not live to see the end of Daikatana.
Asians are actually the one minority group where it's still pretty much okay to make fun of them...it's funny how slowly they've progressed compared to other groups. If you made a game today called Watermelon Warrior people would fucking march, riot, and loot the world, but I bet you could still get away Lo Wang for the most part.
I'd put money on it. Things may have improved marginally, but Asians still don't get the same respect that's afforded to many other groups. I think it's an injustice.
For example, Black people have come a long way in the American entertainment field, but name one Asian who played the lead in anything that wasn't a Kung Fu movie.
I dunno, they got JV and Elvis thrown of the air for calling a Chinese restaurant. Shitty John Liu would get his face all over the news and that shit would be gone the next day. The party ended on Asian jokes about 5 years ago.
System Shock 2 release confirmed: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013...-comes-to-gog/
Goes up tomorrow morning. Pls see link for an interview on the release.
Wow. There's a 2013 prediction lots of people wanted but no one made.
Awesome news!
The Polito form is dead, insect.
I love the top of gog's site:

YOU PATHETIC CREATURE OF MEAT AND BONE
If anyone is interested (I sure am), GOG just released Syndicate Wars: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/syndicate_wars
FUCK YEAH SEAKING
This is probably the best place to ask this, I'm trying to remember a PC game that I think was out in 1994-1995. 2D isometric turn based strategy game. It took place in the future where you chose a gang and fought I think 3 other gangs for territory. I think I remember the map of the city being made up of square tiles with each gang given their own color, if you owned a square it turned your color. There were a few different unit types you used to fight others (snipers, body guards and such) and there was a tech tree for upgrades to weapons, armor, health packs. I want to say EA published it.
Mob Rule? I never played it, but it seems to fit the description. Maybe.
James
It's like that, but a different setting. Def came out years before 1999.
Sounds like Syndicate dude.
I know, that's the first thing I checked but it doesn't look right at all. I played it a lot with a friend, maybe he remembers.
You looked at the original and the sequel, right?
Sounds kinda like Jagged Alliance.
Someone will figure it out.
Off topic, but it reminds me of a game that has been haunting me for years. When I was around 5 years old, I remember playing this awesome arcade game. I don't remember the name, but I remember it scrolled right and you shot people, and there were doors. That was about all I could remember, although I had a clear picture in my head of the game. A few months ago I was dicking around in Mame with my Modbox experimenting with games I had never played, and suddenly BAM, that game I played 28 years ago was Rolling Thunder.
Sounds like Chaos Overlords.
You got it! My friend new the name too! According to the facebook page, gog is going to be selling it soon and a sequel is being worked on (kickstarter coming soon).
Tuff crowd.

I remember when that game came out and my computer wasn't even close to being able to handle it. I don't know why I never went back with newer hardware!
I never did play Strike Commander back in the day, even though it was on the same disc as WC2. Does it hold up still?
bVork says no.
Bvork has a WC avatar, I trust his judgment.
The Tex Murphy games are 60% off right now. I think it's a promotion building up to some big announcement on Wednesday.
yo why does GOG Wing Commander 2 crash so often?
it's annoying and it's making me skip to WC3.
There's a compatibility patch and some command line stuff someone mentioned in another thread, you might search and see if that helps. I don't know much about dosbox, last time I played WC2 I used the Kilrathi Saga disc on a Win XP system I built specifically for WC games.
It was bVork.
You should make that your custom status.
I always look for Gamevet posts when I break out the Commodore 64.
Is there any consistency to when the game is crashing? Which DOSBox are you using, precisely? I used this build and had literally zero crashes after I started using loadfix.
Pretty sure it's been crashing on docking at the end of a given mission. It's not consistent.
I was originally using a version of Duam from December 2012ish, configured for MT32 and all, using loadfix -32, but now I'm using vanilla .74 with loadfix -32 (default GOG, but I'm using the non-MT32 Roland audio). The Duam version was crashing in similar situations, so I don't know.
This is going to be a large stretch, but maybe GOG messed with some files? I didn't use the GOG version - I dug out my ancient media and installed it myself. I'm attaching an SFV file. Drop it into the directory where wc2.exe lives and then verify your files using QuickSFV or a similar program. Let me know if any files fail the check, and I can send those specific ones your way. Maybe that'll solve it.
OH SHIT
THE LORDS OF MIDNIGHT RE-RELEASE
IT LOOKS GORGEOUS

Click for full size
They're having a pretty big sale for the next ~21 hours.
LBA 1 and 2 and the whole Tex Murphy series super cheap right now.
I thought of you when I saw that, and with how awesome the new one looks, I might just grab them all. It's been forever since I have played one.
Oh man, LBA? That's Twinsen right?
yes
I have been buying a ton of GOG lately.
LBA sure is some European shit.
I wonder what it is about that part of the world that makes their art design just total garbage.
Programmers making games and doing their own art for 'em, IMO. Or maybe having their kids design them?
Banjo looks like some shit drawn on notebook paper by a middle schooler because he basically is.
All of Rare's designs look like the cartoon characters on the bags of generic cereal.
LBA's art design is somehow worse than that, and the voice acting downright offensive, and yet the games are super great.
In fairness, I think a lot of it had to do with being the early days of 3D and modeling things with simple primitives, rather than some "Euro" aesthetic.
Whole games made out of spheres.
This is how I feel. It's hideous but it's just basic shapes pasted together, looking like it came from a small team that had no real artistic designer at all.
I think reject cereal mascot designs is probably the perfect way to describe Rare characters. Thank you for that.
I remember seeing a sort of Tomb Raider-y game in Next Generation back around that time that was all spheres, nothing ever happened with it apparently.
Jesus, Jet Force Gemini. I'm starting to remember why I had such a knee-jerk distaste for the N64.
