Someone helped themselves to about $2K of my debit account earlier this year. The money was put back after a little paperwork and a few weeks of waiting. Honestly, the biggest inconvenience that you have to look forward to is being without a debit card for a while, especially if the account/card is involved in automatic bill payment for anything.
Where's the use/threat of force against Cap in this thread?
It very well could have been a company handling your SS# and they lost it or got a breach. 2 months ago, we got an email from our benefits wench saying that the handlers for our benefits lost HALF of the SS#s they maintain on a flash drive. So everyone in our company got 2 free years of identity theft protection from one of those protection companies from the idiot company.
So far, all it's done is send us a pound of mail with credit reports, history and all kinds of shit confirming the monitoring.

Thats a reason why I just shred all paper works with my name and personal information. Even junk advertisement mail and packages I receive. I rip off my name and address off those papers. Chuck the rest and shred anything personal.
Also, why $200 or $500? Unless thats all you had but why not clean you out completely? I guess it would throw a red flag to both accounts. Whats stupid is that if the person was stealing from you and he transferred it to his bank account, couldnt they find out and catch him? If I was robbing you, I would clean you out and take cash out from the ATM.
It's really easy to take care of, you will file a dispute with your bank and if it does appear to be a fraudulent charge you will get your money back. It should only take a week or two. This happened to me a few months ago, someone purchased 3 flights from an Argentinean airline using my debit card and everything got resolved quickly.Quote:

That way if anyone tries to open any sort of account in your name using your information you have to be notified before the account can be created. Losing $200 is one thing, getting your credit ruined if someone DOES have your information is way worse.

After flipping out on about a dozen different useless bank employees I finally got it sorted out.
Someone at RBC apparently 'borrowed' money from dozens of customers in order to make some sort of investment of their own.
I really should have demanded some kind of compensation, but I was so relieved to have my money back that I didn't bother.
Looks like I'll have to wait till tomorrow to find out what is going on, but I am hoping it is just some technical glitch on the banks side. I mean, I don't even think you can make transfers via ATM.
