came accross this on the game|life blog at wired. it'd be nice if we started to see more places like this pop up. it must be VERY expensive to import some of those games, though.
maybe in my old age when i have a ton of money (ahahaha) i'll open up an arcade/coffee shop/comic book store. that'd be sweet.

The few I saw were pretty shitty with only a few decent fighting games and a ton of shitty ticket winning games. Though one did have a nice small selection of shmups. Arcades are dying in general.Quote:

this is a much better video than I took this year when I went in, but this has been my single arcade stop for the past 12 years or so. he shows a bunch of the retro stuff and manages to steer away from every single pinball machine and just about every "new" arcade game, my favorites in that place being Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Confidential Mission. This is the last arcade I know of that I could actually give that name and not call it just a hole in the wall with some arcade machines. One of my favorite places to go each year, and I go there at least once a day for the 7 days I'm down there each year.
But there are still thousands of them all over. Finding an arcade with lots of players and a steady influx of new games isn't too hard.Quote:

Actually, they're only dying as we know it. The number of arcades in America has actually increased, with the only difference being that they're morphing into places with more redemption machines and casual games than traditional coin-ops.Quote:

Melf is probably right, but with the aforementioned Arcade UFO that rama posted about and Denjin Arcade recently opening up in Simi Valley, CA, I think there's a small rise of Japanese-style arcades in the US too. These are the kinds of places that we need to support before they all end up dying off again. The owner's love for the games can only go so far and they're taking a relatively big risk even opening them up in the first place.
That place looks incredible. I'm actually contemplating the 12 hour drive to get there after they get Street Fighter IV.Quote:
