So, Both of My Grandmothers Died Today
I was just told that my father's mother passed away today. This was pretty unexpected. She was sick last week and hospitalized, then released, then went back in and is now gone.
I won't heap a great deal of platitudes upon her, but she was my grandma, my mamaw actually - and the last vital link to my grandpa (papaw) who was a great man but died of leukemia in 1989.
Because of issues I'd rather not mention at this time, we haven't been close since my grandfather died, but this news came as something of a punch in the gut.
Especially on the back of news early this morning that my mother's mother (who we just called grandma) died. This was not as big a shock since she's been in a home with Alzheimer's for the last several years and her Alzheimer's was at a state that she really did not know anyone or anything around her. She was 94, so several years older than my grandmother on my dad's side.
She was a simple country woman with a huge heart and a great laugh. When we kids would visit her when we were little, I remember climbing around in her closet with my brother, sister or various cousins. She had huge stacks of handmade quilts in there and we'd scale them on up to the ceiling. Her home was always warm and inviting, where the greatest southern or southwest cooking could always be found and it was always a centerpoint for extended family gatherings of which she was the heart.
Anyway, I didn't want to burden people with this here at work but needed to get it out, so thank you for your time.
