Tell Me About Your Local Arcade
We all know that arcades are a dying business. With the video game explosion that has happened every game that can be done in the arcade gets a perfect version on the home system. With the advent of faster internet speeds you can play people from around the world and post rankings of your scores, basically replicating the arcade from your couch. Yet some arcades still strive and are going strong. Is your arcades one of these that still bring in a crowd on the weekends at night? What kind of games do they have? Is it a large or relatively small arcade? Do they run tournaments frequently? How much do they charge for each play? Are they just an arcade or do they sell or have other things to supplement income?
All the arcades in my area are gone, the last really good spot that had fighting games, puzzle and shooters(shumps I know some don't like that word) closed down a few years back. It was called Wizzards. All of the really competitive fighting games were there and the competition came. Pretty sure if you are a resident of Detroit or hang around in Mid West forums for fighting you've either heard of it or have been there. I'm pretty sure there was some financial reason they closed, but I'm not really sure.
Playing games at home on 360 or PS3 are fun, but I don't think they can live up to the comradery of being all in the same place at the same time trash talking and staying on the machine all evening taking all that come up to the stand.
So for the arcades in your area that are still open what do you think that keeps them open and mind you I'm not talking about Dave and Busters or Gameworks, I never really liked those places.
