Ohhhhh here's hoping! Trigger finger ready to click in 4 hours.
Damn, what a decision...
So, uhh, I bought that. I don't know why.
Where is it gaiz?
Sold out already? I didn't check until 1:02!
http://store.namcobandaigames.com/st...isplayHomePage
Click on it from the left-hand pane and you see a pre-order button.
Got one!
Just clicked it, still available btw. Dunno wtf Gohan is looking.
Shit, 100 bucks... I just can't do it right now.
I dunno, in the first link the page showed up but there was no preorder button. Diff's link worked.
I did it, fuck I never buy LEs this one is a very special case IMO.
That fucking book goddamn
NICE. Got one. Thanks, Diff and Finch!
Who the hell knows when I will actually receive it though. Shipping is slow as hell and it says "will ship after release."
Yeah lol
$108 shipped is too much. I'm locked in for $48 for the regular edition, and there's no way those extras are worth $60 unless you're keeping it sealed and speculating.
If I buy it, I will never open it. Pass.
(That neptunia game better be worth it!)
Nabbed one! The lack of a cheap shipping option is bullshit, but at least it was easier to justify 2-day.
I will buy a normal version for no more than $40.
You all are ridiculous.
You're just gonna download it.
=]
Too bad amazon doesn't have it, I have a $100 gift card burning a hole in my pocket. Maybe I'll buy a pimp soldering station instead.
It's actually one of the very rare times you're not just getting a bunch of trinkets (even though you're getting some of those too). I don't know if the book will be worth an extra $60, but it'll probably be worth that to someone else, HEH HEH HEH. i accidentally ordered a copy
I hope this shows up in Redbox or something.
worse than opaque!
It looks like it's doing well on Amazon and there's some decent hype behind it. Maybe it won't bomb hard like it did in Japan.
I haven't really played a non Steam PC game in so long I can't even remember. Certainly not since Skyrim came out.
I don't fuck with console modding so there's that.
I'm gonna download that book for my future 3D printer and craft it out of my old, recycled feces.
edit: wait it's a book I can make it with a regular printer. Fuck. Or dload a digital version EVEN BETTER
I ordered this forever ago and figured I'd just cancel if it was getting bad press. I think I'll keep it now! Namco's worthless website hasn't destroyed my order.
And not even two hours after my post, I notice a letter saying that my credit card number has been changed due to potential fraud on my account. I've read a bunch of complaints about Namco canceling people's orders when they try to change the payment method for a pre-order. Fuck.
I'm not sure im gonna keep this thing. It's an awesome set but yea.
Buying a special edition for every big game is nuts.
Buying a special edition for something you really enjoy is plenty worth it.
I can't be the only one who thinks this game would be terrible with any other coat of paint.
I'll get it because if the Ghibli finish, but it does not look like something we'll all love and play ten years from now. The game play just doesn't look amazing, just barely acceptable enough that it let's you enjoy the asthetics. Japan didn't even really like it and they love shit shitty rpgs. That being said I suppose an art book for this is basically taking advantage of the best part of the game.
:\ Is there anything to say to you?
NO. NO THERE ISN'T.
I don't know anyone who likes Ghibli more than me. I've watched at least one Ghibli movie every week for like the last ten years. I go to sleep listening to one of their soundtracks every four or five days. I fucking LOVE their shit. I'm going to watch Cat Returns tonight. Then I'm going to play the Naussica soundtrack while I fall asleep. I'm obsessed with this shit and nothing in the background while browsing those interwebs is nicer.
This game play just looks whatever, though.
Okay. Sounds good. Time to shut up now.
I hope this game sucks just so you cry.
It will be worth me being disappointed just to know you are too. ^_^
I hope you watch Cat Returns because it sucks.
Dude, DUDE.
THE LITTLE CAT HOUSE ARE YOU FUCKING KUDDING ME? THE TOWER BATTLE AND KING AND HOLY SHIT THE PARADE!
I bet you don't like Pom Poko and the racoon pouches either, you fair weather fan.
Pom Poko is excellent. How could anyone deny that.
Dammit I was too slow. I wanted to get one of those LEs
I don't know what Opaque is on about, this game looks great.
Game play looks meh.
I hope to fuck I'm wrong. I will be so happy to come in here and praise this as the best game ever if it is. I hope the reason I'm so critical of what looks like cookie cutter rpg elements is because I want to keep my hopes down before my mind if fucking blown. I hope.
Eurogamer loved it. That's all I need.
I just spent three hours on the phone with the Namco store trying to get my payment method changed (my bank switched my credit card number without warning) and it did not go well at all. Digital River handles the store and they're clearly the worst site on the internet. There is apparently no way to change a pre-order's payment method without ordering a brand new copy, which is difficult when the stupid thing is sold out.
I've talked to several techs and supervisors and I still can't get anyone to confirm anything in an email but I supposedly have an open ticket with a payment change request. "Please wait 24-72 business hours for a response!" From what I've read on other sites, the response will probably be "kill yourself," if they respond at all.
So I throw myself at the mercy of TNL. If my order is rejected due to bad payment information, would anyone be willing to sell an unwanted copy to me? You can probably gouge someone else on Ebay but you'll miss out on my undying love!
I'm surprised you got THAT far. I tried to simply ask them why the hell the Wizard Edition was up on their site at all if you can't order it (before the restock). I was greeted with "We have no idea what you're talking about! Ask Namco." Namco sent it right back to them. AGH.
I'm still sad I missed the deluxe version. This looks like it could potentially be the first JRPG I'd consider playing enough to actually finish in a very long time.
James
This.
Shape-shifting raccoons with magical scrotums? What's not to like!
OG here. I like Kiki's better, though.
Back on topic, IF I ever play this game it'll be after you fellas finish it and I read your feedback. And then only after it's reduced in price. I'm kinda over JRPGs and, like Opaque has been saying, its appeal has mainly been the Ghibli art.
i actually really like Cat Returns, it's just my least favorite ghibli film besides Grave of the Fireflies, The Yamadas, and Earthsea, none of which are even bad
Give me back my rep.
Grave of the Fireflies is my least favorite because it portrays Seita as an asshole who feels so weh at the rest of the world that he can't suck it up and save his own sister. I know what they're going for, he's been outcast, he's on his own, but he's given enough opportunity to at least keep his sister from being pulled down with him. It tries so hard to be sad that it just makes me angry.
I've only ever watched it 2 or 3 times because I DO cry. That cartoon is brilliant.
If EVERYONE IN THE WORLD didn't promote it as the saddest thing ever, i'd probably like it more. I think i just watched it expecting it to make me cry at its sadness.
I KNOW! I really like sad movies and really liked Barefoot Gen. I think i would appreciate Grave of the Fireflies more if it had been presented to me as a historical film rather than the saddest thing ever. I watched it English dubbed too, back when having to pay extra for a Japanese voice track was a thing. Maybe the original Japanese track is better at subtlety than the old CPM track? It's okay, everyone else can love it as much as they want. It's just not my movie. NOW EXCUSE ME WHILE I CRY BECAUSE JINTAN WANTS TO MARRY MENMA.
Grave of the Fireflies is so fucking depressing and beautiful and moving all at the same time.
It's far and away my least favorite Ghibli film to watch but only because I feel shitty afterwards, not because of its quality.
Also yes Kiki's is in fact better than Cat Returns, who would even argue that it wasn't? Crazy people who hate good things, that's who.
Maybe the dub messes with the tone of the film? I always feel terrible for Seita; there are a couple times that he breaks down and despairs after trying so hard to take care of them both and it's just soul-crushing.
That last shot of Kobe is overwhelmingly beautiful and sad.
Heh, I remember being seriously pissed off at my friend for making me watch it years and years ago. It really got to me in a way movies seldom do; I was a blubbering wreck by the end.
It's probably better in French. Ghibli movies are always best in French.
Menma.. :(
So instead of getting an LE of this, I'm not getting it at all. Namco's system decided not to keep my credit card info I guess? And it couldn't process it so any chance to get it is gone. I feel like I've heard of digitalriver before, and I'm starting to suspect it wasn't a good thing.
It's because the same thing has happened to people all over the place for games like EA's stuff and Turbine. So good going game industry.
Just take a look at Namco's facebook page. It's happening to a lot of people. This is a clusterfuck. A DEBACLE.
Yeah which means it will probably get resolved, so there's that!
Holy crap, the Ni no Kuni page is actually worse. DIGITAL RIVER. BAD NEWS.
I canceled my order, just on cost grounds.
I'll have my regular edition today.
How did you find out about the issue, Thief? I got a confirmation email when I made my pre order and nothing since.
They sent me an email saying it was cancelled. However my credit just say it was worried about fraud too for something that cost what I shoulda paid. So for some stupid reason it's possibly it's my credit card's fault? Which doesn't make any sense.
Man, I would have paid for it :(
I finally got a response to my open issue with the Namco Store:
So if anyone else has a copy they don't need (and you're not interested in selling it on Ebay), I'd very much like to buy it from you.Quote:
We sincerely apologize, however there appears to have been a
miscommunication with payment information on these orders. Once an
order is placed in the system we do not have the ability to change the
credit card which will be charged. Due to the limited availability of
this product, we can no longer place orders for this product, therefore
we are unable to change your billing information. All available copies
have been sold and there is no left over stock. You willl receive an
email once the order is complete or if there is any issue completing
your order. We apologize for any inconvenience.
i don't even know if i'm going to get mine and i paid for it at the time of the order with paypal. DIGITAL RIVER MORE LIKE DIGITAL CESSPOOL
i want internet riots. Throw an internet garbage can through an internet storefront window
As soon as this hits $40 on Amazon.
Come on random sale. You can do it.
Yeah, I think I'm going cheap too. I'd have sprung for the Wizard edition, assuming it's actually something that's possible to buy, or settled for the Gamestop steel case version. Seeing as neither are available, it can wait. Gotta hand it to Namco, though- they did a great job of dispelling any excitement for the game by making the nice versions so hard to get.
James
Really smart business strategy to not have supply to meet demand.
Yeah, I got ass-raped out of the Wizard Edition today via email. Still don't understand how my copy is sitting there waiting to be shipped, they try to charge my card, it fails for whatever reason, THEN IMMEDIATELY THAT COPY IS NOW UNAVAILABLE GO FUCK YOURSELF ASSHOLE CUSTOMER. What in Christ.
Steelbooks' spines are unsightly. I'd take the normal edition over one of those things.
I plan on it. Just not today, when Unfinished Swan is $3.75.
James
Yeah, but someone else will buy it and it'll still sell out. You wouldn't buy the regular edition from Namco so you're not a lost sale so why should they care? Sure, they could make a site that isn't a goddamned war crime and hire a help desk that isn't worthless but that would cost money!
Better customer service is $5 on disc DLC bro.
Steelbooks? Isn't that the Gamestop version? The WE is different.
I just called the non-go-fuck-yourself-number provided in a GameFAQs thread and was able to still order it without any hassle. Just got the confirmation email. Here is the # if anyone else wants to try. Their customer service is open 24 hours/day:
952-253-1234
If it wasn't clear, you have to have already had your order canceled and be able to give them the order #.
That was for WIZARDEDITION?
Yes. All other editions are 100% worthless.
It's only for wizards.
My order hasn't been officially canceled yet, in spite of that email. I guess I'll try calling anyway.
edit: that's the same place I called earlier.
Apparently my whole problem was my bank thinking it was a fraud charge. Which is pretty random, but whooops!
I ordered the special edition and it came today. Played it for about an hour, which was 90% cartoons (wtfisthisshit) and the other 10% was a Harry Potter ripoff so blatant Im surprised no one was sued. They changed Dobbys name to Drobby or something. I called Namco and they don't take returns so I just threw the fucking thing out. JRPGs, never again
O, u.
OK, so Namco was no help. BUT! I called my bank and explained the situation. They said that they can keep my old card active for another week. So as long as Namco actually ships my copy soon, the charge should go through. omgomgomg
I played through the first dungeon. I, uh... I don't know about this one. Enemies that haven't posed a threat in a few levels still beeline at me, forcing fights in which I lose no HP every ten seconds. I wish someone at Level 5 played Earthbound.
It sure does look and sound great, though, and the monster-switching mechanic seems like it might have teeth.
Actually I hear from a number of reviews that the game gets pretty tough. Just from reading though.
The reviews for this have been stellar, so I'll probably end up owning this at some point. I haven't played through a JRPG in a while
Played for about 10 hours straight today. Longest gaming session I've had in quite a while.
