I just got one, too!
Got kinda angry when I saw a Digital River receipt in the box. Those assholes still owe me $10.
i played this for about an hour last night and now i know what you're saying. Like the first 15 minutes is wandering around Whitesville, complete with invisible walls to keep out the coloreds, and then the next 30 minutes is Drippy running his god damn mouth about sticks and stupid nicknames and shit i don't care about. In the Japanese version they say "ni no kuni" at least twice every time a character opens his mouth.
It reminds me a little bit of Lunar, like in a nice way. I'm a little afraid it'll turn into an Eternal Sonata experience. I'm going to be really upset if that happens...
Yeah, the colors are really Tengai Makyou.
(◎╭╮◎) Eternal Sonata is the low point for jrpg's. everQuote:
You're afraid it will turn awesome?
Star Ocean 4
You might be right, but i never ever wanted to play Star Ocean 4, so i'm safe.
This game came out exactly one month ago.
There's a few $34 used copies Amazon Warehouse is selling in Very Good condition. Hit that shit up.
The voice overs and cutscenes and are mostly concentrated to the very beginning and end of the game. Both are pretty sparse throughout 70% of the rest of the game. This is mainly due to the majority of the game consisting of sidequests (errands and bounty hunts) which are all optional. While they *are* optional, it's a good idea to do at least some of them since completing them unlocks formulae and merit awards which will take a lot of the frustration out of the game.
Beat this a few days ago. Final battle was relatively easy due to my party being way overleveled (level 95-99). Overall, enjoyed it. Besides the battle system, this is a traditional JRPG in every sense of the word which brings all the good and bad that comes with it. Graphics and characters were charming, and the music was good, but got repetitive as there really aren't a lot of tracks in the game. Defeated the optional superboss which wasn't very difficult at all. All sidequests are completed except the alchemy one. I've just given up on that.
this game is good, but calling it the best jrpg since anything but Xenoblade means you haven't played Xenoblade. Arobimi is right that the dungeons suck and that it gets really obnoxious when you can't really avoid enemies that you've been destroying for a couple levels already.
Level-5 is great, but they need to be working under someone like SquareEnix or Nintendo to really reach their potential. Level-5 for next Final Fantasy pls. You can cancel all 4 games you're already working on, just say "Okay, only FFXV is on the horizon and it'll have a Yoshitaka Amano visual style".
Just finished installing. A few minutes in and I'm already so in love with the atmosphere and music.
You'll also fall in love when you give Mitey a chocolate bar. <3
Petey. His name is Petey.
It's okay that you gave him the wrong name, Finch. You might not have even called Zoobums by his proper moniker, either. Just give him an ice cream. He'll like you anyway.
Jesus the music+visuals in this game. The design of the first town alone is the best shit I've ever seen in an RPG. Battle system is whatever.
One day when PS3 emulation is a solid thing this game on easy mode will be the most amazing, super long, movie ever.
I got my strategy guide today. UPS delivered it Monday, and no one in the office could find it. Today i just bugged the office until she found it in the "return to sender" pile. DIGITAL RIVER CAN'T EVEN GET NOT GETTING THE STUPID THING RETURNED RIGHT. and there's a big rip in one of the pages, like someone got MAD and ripped it... digital river...
I'm kind of digging this game now, despite saying, "Why did they do this like this?" at nearly every design choice made in the game.
why don't the characters just auto attack in battle, having to go through the little menu just seems like an extra unnecessary step after Xenoblade and Last Story
why do i have to go through a crazy menu to take heart and transfer heart or any of the other situation-specific spells in the game
why do i have to go to the "cage" to feed the creatures instead of just going to their status screen or whatever
why won't super weak enemies just leave me the fuck alone
why is the voice acting so sparse in a big budget game where the designers specifically wanted the player to feel like he or she was playing a Ghibli film.
the monsters are cute but why'd they go with boring old ghibli style when the original designs were really neat (okay, i know, because they wanted to sell a game with a PS3 budget, but still, the original designs are better. i don't think ghibli added anything besides the name and look)
Bad good games are the worst.
The thing is, Level 5 kind of sucks at game design. I just want them to make games for other, better companies.
How about Obsidian does design and Level 5 handles the engine?
Can the story be written by the same spambot that emails me about affordable penis enlargement?
I'm about 15 hours in and this game is good.
Not great, not the best RPG ever, but good. The look of the world and the music is just fucking phenomenal and everything else is just decent enough that you don't put the game down. Everything else constant with a different coat of pain and no one would have given a single fuck about this game. The same coat of paint over FFXII and you'd maybe, literally, have the best game ever made.
I don't know about that. There's something about the "I hope this utter piece of shit sells well so the fantastic game can happen" train of thought that bugs me.
James
This is Squeenix we're talking about. FF XII portable is going to happen sooner or later. I just hope it doesn't happen on a fucking cell phone.
IF WE KNOW SQUARE, FFX doing well would just result in FFX2 HD being announced for Vita. Or something... Actually, if it did terrible they'd probably announce 10 sequels, cancel 6 of them after the first 4 did terribly, then scrap the Final Fantasy brand altogether, citing terrible sales of shitty games that no one asked for in the first place. There would be a single really good FFX spin-off released to PSP in Japan, never released in any form to the US even after it's completely localized, and after that, I HOPE YOU LIKE GREE AND CARD GAMES THAT INVOLVE TOUCHING THE SCREEN TO PAY MORE MONEY FOR BULLSHIT.
Just kidding, we're already there.
There are a surprising number of people who count X as Square's last great FF. They hate XII as much as XIII.
I guess they're bratlings? I don't know. I most see them on GameFAQs. I recommend a perusal of any S-E/FF thread if you want to feel sick to your stomach.
i get really upset when people hate FFXII... why... why do we live in a world like this.
I could see someone more used to the 16 bit games not liking XII, but liking X and not liking XII is lunacy.
The 16-bit games aren't as good as FFXII, though. Not even FFIV, the best game, is better than FFXII.
FFVI just gets worse every time i try to play it. I don't know why people regard that crap so highly. It's BORING. BAD. It's like a BAD version of FFVII.
If I were near you I would punch you in the arm! And it would hurt!
Not his drawing arm!
12 kind of falls apart in the last third. I love it to death before that, though.
Find a way to play the Zodiac International version if you haven't!
12 gets better in the last 1/3rd because that's where you stop really caring about the story and it becomes The Adventures of Fran, Balthier, and Penelo running around finding crazy crap that the game never shows you otherwise. Also the last 1/3rd is four times as long as the first 2/3rds.
which is weird, because that means i hate VI for the exact reasons that i love XII.
Finch is a man of IMPECCABLE fucking taste.
Parents just don't understand.
NO YOSHI YOU DUMMY. it's because the last 1/3rd of the game is where you're just running around and doing optional quests. It would usually only take you 1/3rd the amount of time to beat, but since you're just wandering around it takes you four times as long as you already spent. DUH. GOTTA EXPLAIN IT.
So cool story bro.
The free strategy guide from this screw up never arrived. Late March sent a email to Namco, they said the team handling the matter would be in touch. Last week still no response so hit them up with another email, politely pointing out this seems to be two orders they've botched. The next email received asks if I'd still like a Wizard Edition? A rep will be calling me. Sure enough a Digital River rep calls claiming they had a undeliverable unit ( the email mentioned a warehouse restock of the edition) and shockingly it arrived yesterday. Suppose I could have been asshole and still demanded the guide but yeah, I'll take the item originally ordered sans inflated auction costs instead.
Congrats. I love the coin so much. Feels so authentic. It even makes that ringing sound when you flip it.
I often fondle it with one hand while playing, true story.
I am!
That line-break was kind of ominous, though.
$26 shipped at some place I've never heard of.
Less than $10 on PS+ this week! And damn, this thing starts off slow.
It gets faster. Just gotta wait for the voice acting budget to run out.
Bought this game for $5 when it was on sale on PSN. Finally cleared out the hd space to install it.
what a charming game. Just a couple hours in but didnt expect it to catch my attention so strongly.
I played this for like three hours and couldn't play it anymore. So boring. Cute though.
I lost attention for it a few months back. The story is pretty boring. But it's so pretty! I'll probably go back to it early next year.
With the battle system, it's like "semi-action" because you can run around. Does it really make any difference for how battles play out? Like can you even avoid enemy attacks? I get that you can find HP and MP on the ground, which is more like a distraction.
Yes, you can definitely avoid enemy attacks. The last boss battle depends on it.
