I'd rather play Pittsburgh than the Rangers, Flyers, Panthers, or Hurricanes. Assuming Miller is still out, I'd like to play the Sabres and Canadiens more than the Penguins.
For the record, there is no logic behind the Hurricanes being on that list, other than they get crazy ass bounces against the Devils.
Gary Roberts retires.
I doubt the Ducks are making it.
The Flyers are weak with a weak goalie, and Briere has got chronic groin injuries going on. On paper the Flyers are a lot scarier than they are. They've still got offensive potential but...they just don't have their game together the way it needs to be. We'll see if that changes by the playoffs.
The Rangers are awful, and the Devils are over them. Antropov and Avery or not, they're not too much different I think. I'm not really afraid of them. I'm still not sold on them making the postseason, either. This is another bit of a wait-and-see, since they added 3 new players, but I'm not really worried about them.
Florida...Why are you so high on Florida? Are you in love with Vokoun? They don't have a team that matches up well against us, if we decide to play serious hockey. We have far too much depth and our top lines are too good defensively. Look at their lineup. The team is mediocre at best. I guess you'd be afraid of Vokoun but whatever. Are you as afraid of Booth and Horton as you are of Malkin? Florida's biggest asset is their shooting defense.
The Hurricanes are confusing. Cam Ward is confusing too. Maybe if they played their top game all the time they could be scary, but they're way too inconsistent. Whitney is their leading scorer. Him and Eric Staal. Brind'Amour is having a banner poor year. Yeah we've embarrassed by them but this team is bigger and won't get pushed around the way they have been in the past. The only thing scary about Carolina is Ward getting on a hot streak, but I think this season has fucked him all up. And their D corps is not good. Not afraid of them.
Sabres don't scare me. They aren't the same team they were in 2006, when they should have gone a lot deeper. They're still weak up the middle, and Miller is a question mark. Lalime is proven playoff poor. Maybe on a team that isn't Ottawa he'll excel? Doubtful.
Montreal....I can't figure them out either. Too many lazy players imo. Kovalev is temperamental. Not enough commitment to D, not a strong enough D corps, goalie situation bad again. Price's confidence is shattered, and the other one isn't great.
So I mean, this brings us to the Penguins. I think they can and will be dangerous. They still have two of the top 5 players in the sport on the team, and that's scary. Just like Washington was scary (but didn't get it done) last year. Their goalie can get hot if he can stay healthy. Guerin's got a lot left and I think his presence in the locker room is going to help out that team a lot. They're heating up again, too. I agree, Crosby is a wah wah crybaby distraction, and he shouldn't wear a letter period, but they'll get over it and he'll buckle down and they're going to play good hockey. They're below where they ought to be in the standings, they should be a 5 seed, and they'll probably hit that mark as Montreal continues to fuck itself in the ass. I don't know anything about the D-man they picked up. I don't care. We all thought they'd be worse than last year, and they are, but I still wouldn't want them as a first round opponent.
Montreal just won't battle for the damn puck the way they would need to against us. This funk they are in is unbelievable btw. They're fighting for a playoff spot and they get blanked by Atlanta. That's poor. I mean, the Devils lost to Atlanta to but...the Devils fixed shit. Montreal's been losing forever.
The Devils have 42 wins. So do Boston and San Jose, and Detroit has 43 but we have a game in hand on them.
We are only behind in loser points.
The only reason Ray Whitney, Carolina's leading scorer, has breached 20 goals, is because he scored a hat trick last night against Calgary's backup goaltender with three powerplay goals as Calgary took penalties all night.
The scary thing about the Rangers is that if their power play were more effective (let's say middle of the road, like NJ, @19.7 % on 46 PP goals in 234 chances. The Rangers are 39 in 270 @ 14.4%) which would've resulted in 15 more goals then they'd be right next to the Devils in the standings. They've scored 2 or less goals in 37 games, many of which they lost 3-2 or 2-1 (I counted 16 rather quickly). If there power play were average, they would've had at least 8 more points which would've put them a few points behind the Devils. I think the new players (Antropov, Morris, Avery) can certainly help that stat (and already has) and, if does, the Rangers will have to be taken seriously by whoever plays them. I think their starting 6 D-men are as good as any in the East.
The Devils' PP numbers are misleading. They were 14% for two months and then well over 20% since.
Of course, today they freed up 2 hours of my day. If they don't want to play, I Don't want to watch. It's like last year's efforts against the New York teams.
It's not over yet. Not that it's worth watching.
btw it's that damn metro ice challenge
