You'd think the publishers would understand this and see that it really is a circular process. I'm pretty sure EA would have no problem with me trading in Turd Fighter 3 and Same Old RPG for credit towards NBA 09. Or even 2 of their other sports titles, for a new one. Everyone wins, but they just don't see it that way.

I have no problem with Gamestop. If you have a problem with their over-priced used games, then go somewhere else. I don't normally buy a 1 month old game for $5 less than new, but I'll be more than happy to pay $8 for a used title, over a new one at $19.99.

This isn't Ipod here. Best Buy, Walmart and such don't make any money off of the sales of a console, but they make it up with software sales. If the software isn't available in the stores, what's the incentive for a retailer to carry the hardware?

If a game is good enough for me to waste my time on it, then I don't mind paying full price to give the dev's support for what they are doing.

And in theoretical economics, if gamestop makes less money, and developers more, that will decrease the price of games! But since nobody believes this will happen, it might postpone the next price increase in games, that is very feasible.

You would think downloads would be cheaper than retail since they can cut out the middlemen and manufacturing costs but download services like Steam usually charge the same as retail discs anyway.

So all the games were $5 bucks, then one came out at $10 and people bought it so then developers were all "hey..." and now all the games are $10 and soon they'll be $15 because Braid was $15 and people bought it and this will go on and on until we are paying $50 for a download.

I don't really give a shit though.

I haven't exactly bought a ton of accessories for either my PS3 or 360, unless you count the Rockband kit. Now that most consoles have a HDD, items like memory cards are going away as well.

Ipod still sells a ton of Itunes cards at retail, so they're more than happy to promote it.
