No one is telling anyone they cannot buy used games. But if you lose something by doing so, that is your problem. You are not buying an identical product in this case.

Because they aren't affected nearly as much as game companies are. People don't buy couches and then toss them in a month. The cost of materials is completely different. There are so many problems with that straight analogy

How much the company is affected doesn't matter. It is up to them to come up with something the consumer wants to buy, and buy soon. Not change the system to kiss their ass.

Fine. Everything is like that in some regard. The longer it is on the shelf, the less it is worth. Unless for some reason the consumer decides that it is rare.

What really surprises me is how business bitches about stuff like this and expects things to always go their way. If they were smart, they'd accept the fact that individuals and stores will be buying and selling used games and just work around it. Either by making everything DLable, or offering day one DL content, or whatever.

But the DL model isn't going to work because the US is too tight-assed to spend anything on Internet infrastructure, unlike the rest of the developed world.

I don't have a problem with either.

BUT they are not the same thing. When you buy used, the company still has control over the saturation of the product which has a huge impact on demand. Like say a game becomes popular used, like some rpg. The used price goes up and if the company is smart, they reissue it and make money.

With pirating, this never happens. A product is copied and becomes over saturated. Real copies are worth less, new or used. Like take a cd in a pawn shop for example. You might see a cd you like, but you are going to be less likely to buy it if you have the mp3s at home. Pirating made that cd worth less to you. It drove the demand down in your eyes.

True, both give the manufacture no money. But one does take some product control away. And one does hurt them more than the other.

I agree with this movement, at least how Epic is handling it. If you really want a game, then buy it full price new. If you don't care enough for it, you can still buy it used and jsut not have the full content. If you cared enough about the extra content, you should be willing to buy it new. Otherwise wait for a price drop.

I'm not buying either, ever. They can eat my junk.
