Wow. People are little bitches if they let this shit offend them. There is no need for a recall or delay.
why do companies do this dumbass crap
geopolitical testing ftw
jeez.. couldn't they just offer an optional patch?? Even the guy who wrote to Sony about it asked for an online patch. Someone at gaf posted his letter which included his psn id.
uhhh.... patch the damn thing? im guessing thats whats going on. They cant possibly be recalling ALL the discs that are out there already. Their waiting the clock to make, QA, and send out a patch.
This is retarded, if its passages of the Quran whats the offense?
that's the most bullshit excuse to delay a game I've ever seen
I wish they delayed the release of Quran for a few hundred thousand years.
So they are being recalled.
I have some here.
START BIDDING EBAY!
I better still get my copy dood.
huh?
You said you'd let me know.
You never did.
$100 and it's yours.
hahaha
Why does our (North America + Europe) culture treat all non-Christian religions they way one might treat a Ziplock bag full of anthrax?
Shit that might be offensive to Christians never gets pulled. Hell, shit that might be offensive to Christians gets actively pushed when it's funny. But swap in something like Islam into the same situation and we all go retarded.
We end up with things that might be offensive to rational people like "Saints Row 2" happily living on the shelves while something as obscure as lines from the Koran set to music gets pulled because it might be offensive to a small number of wackos.
Because Christians are a bunch of fags.
Shut up. That's why.
Hell yeah
Media Molecule is quite the soft target for Muslims. Christians just irritate the hell out of people with propaganda on their mail box and door.
VOTE OBAMA!
this is the offending song...

seriously? Offensive? worldwide delay?!
I tried to warn you. Islam is a cancer.
You're a racist shitcock from some icecube of a country that no one gives a fuck about.
Canada?
Sorry, never heard of it.
ass balls shit piss cock fuck dick
I have a visual clue

Seriously though, this seems like a contrived excuse because something is fucked up in the game that needs a serious patch that got through testing, and it's a game killer I think.
Enough people have the game already, that if your theory were true we'd probably have heard about it already.
Just another case of some company lawyers over reacting and making a mountain out of a molehill.
Motorstorm 2 better not have offensive Zionists in it.
solid_08!!!

release date changed to Oct 27th, no word on what retailers who already have the game have been told to do.

I have the game ololol
Wait, it's been for real delayed? I want my servars!
Deal. Wear the jackie o dress this time. With your voice, I can pretend you are Doctor Girlfriend.
Karate chop him like it's happening in your avatar and i'll rep you.
All jokes asides, it seems to me Sony just wanted to play this safe, and rather not have it coming back to bite them in the ass later on. Regardless it sucks as the artist is not known to have made songs that offended his own religious or others, so beats me why it's an issue now that one person made a bit of a noise about it.
Muslims probably account for 2% of games sales in the world, why are we bending over backwards to appease them?
Remember the Muhammad cartoon incident?
Yeah, that was retarded as well.
Extremists are retarded.
your retarded
whose your?
my retarded is fantastic.
Seems like an overreaction, but whatever. Punch-Out Wii has Muhammad in it.
Yes sir, I do remember the wonderful cartoons.
My girlfriend rented the racist copy for me today. Since she works there maybe they'll let us keep it if they get new copies? Either way I'll probably get
it for free for at least a week.
Gods I love Islam for making people fear it so much.
Seems MM wanted to patch it up, but Sony went against that, actually Sony just decided as mentioned before in this thread (they had to think about people with no inets) :bang:
MM's reaction

Tbh, I won't be surprised during this period that it will cause riots or whatever or perhaps Nintendo will be forced to go the save way also on this one, just funny how things change over time. Ah well...Quote:

there's a love and fear of dick joke in there, but try as I might, I can't find it.
You know what, soccer moms need to get fucked and not let their children play video games. Hell lets just setup Christian schools where the only text is the bible and all subjects are taught via the bible. But they have to agree never to open their mouths in front of a camera.
First dibs on the soccer moms.
I just poked through Ebay to see what was available and it's all preorder, not shipping until the game does, listings. I can't believe there's not a single store around here that wouldn't break the street date. :(
James
If only we knew someone who worked at a mom n' pop game store that sold games they weren't supposed to...
oh wait.
Can said person help me out over here? I'd really like a copy and now the J-version is not dated at all. :(
If only I knew someone like that I'd love to get a PM from them regarding payment options. It would be the most wonderfullest thing ever!
James
Somebody help a brother out here and I'll make it worth their while.
My source ran dry the other day. Korly got one too.
I gots mine, holler ssjn
We've got a nice mom and pop shop that doesn't give a crap about street dates here, out neighbors got LBP that way. The local Gamestop ratted them out to Namco after they destroyed SC4's release date though, so they might get cautious about street dates on big titles from now on :(
I should go see if they're still selling LBP.
Sony is a very respected company in the Middle East, and even if their games don't sell well, I don't think they would want to taint their entire name with something like this. It's easier for them to pull the game and fix it than deal with a somewhat volatile market that no longer supports them, I figure.Quote:

Fuck. I don't need this game yet since it's offline.
Did you see the translation? (copied from elsewhere)
1- In the 18th second: "كل نفس ذائقة الموت" ("kollo nafsin tha'iqatol mawt", literally: 'Every soul shall have the taste of death').
2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: "كل من عليها فان" ("kollo man alaiha fan", literally: 'All that is on earth will perish').
Yeah, those aren't exactly happy verses. If a game contained some of the more less-friendly Bible verses I'm sure there'd be pissed off people all around. People attacking and defending it and whatnot. I can see why they wouldn't want holy book phrases remixed into a game song perhaps, but particularly given the meaning... yeah that's got some potential to be sensitive material.
There is Christian symbolism in the game too -- I've seen the virgin Mary in the background of a few levels with stained glass and all that good stuff.
It better fly off my ebay shelf. I've already beaten the single player, I'll buy it later when it's online.
huh? It's going to be online in like 7 days
you guys are nits
Another bullshit reason to delay a game. It could possibly screw them over a few sales. At any rate, after the Comedy Central, and South Park situation, I’m not shocked. Make fun of Jesus, the ultimate Christian icon other than God, meh. Make fun of anything Muslim and your evil for not being sensitive. Unless it’s about 911.
People don't want to be blown up. The perception is that Muslims will do that, Christians won't. No one actually cares about being culturally sensitive.
I'm actually expecting several smaller stores to have this on sale Tuesday, places that didn't really pay any attention to the recall in the same way others didn't care about the release date. I've got one place in specific around here I'm keeping my eye on, but other than that it's an extra week's wait for the "Eek, a Muslim!"-free version.
James
Cue swearing- On Saturday I stopped by my local indie music store that also carries games to see if they broke street. Nope, but they said to come in on Tuesday and it'd be for sale. I go in today and was told it went on sale yesterday, but then they got word of the recall and sent it back in today's shipment.
Why aren't I allowed to kill whoever I want, whenever it's necessary? Not because I don't have a video game, of course, but for being jerked around. Can we have a Constitutional amendment put in place?
James
I kinda agree - on one hand, it is being overly wary and silly. On the other, when seeing the literal translation, lyrics like that make no sense anyway in a game that makes you feel about as bright and cheery as you can get. Our local place broke street date and when I heard the song playing, it sounded fine. Now that I know what it means, I don't really get why it would be offensive or why Sony would overreact, but from a design stance it has zero reason to be there.
It's not the specific quote that's supposed to be the problem though, it's the mere fact of words from the Koran being put to music at all.
Except that the Koran being put to music isn't a problem at all for 99% of the planet's Muslims. It's actually pretty standard fare, apparently. The problem is that one message board poster who's a member of an obscure ultra-conservative sect asked Sony politely to remove a song he found inappropriate and Sony shat all over themselves to appease him. The Church of England can go screw itself if it wants its cathedral removed from Resistance, but one random message board posting is enough to recall several hundred thousand copies of Little Big Planet. If I'd known that was all it takes to get a multinational corporation to jump through hoops I'd have pretended to be a member of any number of little-known branches of bizarre religions in order to get things done differently.
James

What this guy said IMO.
Not defending muslims here. And I do aggree it's a bit silly and got out of hand.
But I can see why Sony did this non the less. You see remember the brand Sony isn't a ps3 brand alone, they have a lot more other products out there. I read an article about this issue where apparently Sony products are well known and respected in the Arab world. All it takes is 10 extremists to blow this up and before you know it, you have a huge boycot of Sony's product, this would be my guess what Sony was trying to avoid, more of a business decision (to minimize the "damage").. sucks for MM, but in the end it saves Sony a much bigger damage in this case the name sony being not respected as it used to be in the arab world.
Non the less as I said before I find it silly that a religion that I have nothing to do with affect me in some way or the other. I mean this might probably won't be the last one.
Thinking back now, I would imagine if something like this happened with Xenogears, I probably wouldn't have played the game then.
>:[
Death to to all that would do violence over video games.
You're completely wrong here. It's not Muslims, it's a member of an tiny, obscure sect. It's like saying Christians are boycotting the funerals of American soldiers when in reality it's just Fred Phelps and his psycho-fundie family. Except in this case the Muslim sect is actually quite polite.
James
It wasn't the point of from who or which group it came from. My point was that it just take a small X ammount of people with whatever background to take this and totally make it a much bigger issue than it is, which will lead to a boycot or in this case tarnashing the Sony brand name. It happened to involve muslims, and last few years there has been a lot (more) tension between the western and arab world. I just think Sony went the save way. We've seen it before where something from arab world has been taken for pure entertainment got on a few people in the arab world bad side which lead to protests etc etc.
I was more trying to point out something I read in an article which made me see it from Sony's p.o.v. or atleast I can relate to why they have done it this way. Doesn't mean I agree though.
