I'm going to have to scrub myself with a wire brush after saying this, but here goes: I completely agree with Bbobb and YAWA (I get douchechills when I hear someone say "Dr. Paul").
I don't see what the big deal is. If Dennis Kucinich were smart enough to become a doctor, and people referred to him as "Dr. Kucinich," that would seem just as reasonable. I remember as a child I would watch The Cosby Show, and people would refer to Bill Cosby's character as "Dr. Huxtable." Society somehow endured.
Condoleezza Rice has a Doctorate Degree... should we call her Dr. Rice? How bout Dr. Gates? Dr. Gonzalez? Dr. Ashcroft? Dr. Frist? Dr. Dean? Hell the last two even have M.D.s as well.
