People relate to sports so much these days, maybe for all times. Somewhere, someone thought that turning politics into that could be worth a lot of money. And it's a big problem

I didn't know there were shades to Christian pro-life. Must have missed that part in the Bible they thump so much.
Dems have their position pretty uniform, I think. The point's moot anyway. The SCOTUS solved that issue 40 years ago. Repubs can whine all they want.Quote:
Even your statement about Democrats is inaccurate.
Thats part of it, definitely. There is a certain sports mindset to it all. And sports seem like a bigger part of american lives than ever before. Maybe its cellphones, allowing people to stay plugged in, but I know grown men where every conversation is sports. Sec football this, golf that, and maybe a little duck hunting on the side. I don't know their wives names, but I know what golf clubs they are thinking of buying. And the weeks spent preparing for fantasy football, man. It really is the other side of the coin of adults not fulling coming into adulthood, as it were. The baseball cards to the nerd's video games.
But I don't think it is just sports and the expanding role the sports mindset now plays. I think John Stewart's argument that news has become entertainment is a big part of it too. I think something died in american politics when the news channels saw ratings sky rocket when they talked about Monica's white dress and Bill Clinton.
I also think the fall of the soviet union also played a huge role. We used to have this huge extreme far far away to rally against and this caused both parties to work together. Maybe they didn't agree on everything, but they were both Americans and better than the "other" so they compromised. Then the USSR fell, and now the other party, is the "other" and they can't and won't agree on shit. Or we can go deeper and say the USSR is the problem. That it introduced the concept of a huge other and it trained us to think in those terms, but I'm not familiar with how much the US government actually got done before the forming of the USSR. It feels like they got more done than we do now, but I could be wrong. I know we had a civil war during that time. So maybe the US gov is naturally at its own throat without a great outside enemy.
and before people flip out on that first comment, I suppose you could generalize further and say there is an all encompassing problem of Americans being obsessed with playing games, both physical and digital without singling out one hobby as better than the other. That America and perhaps other free nations are in an increasing state of arrested development and that is having an impact on government. Great people just can't be bothered to particpiate or pay attention because they are either watching or playing games.
(though, it seems that there are more gamers that pay attention to politics. Though they still do not get actively involved. They just complain on the internet. Which is functionally just as bad)
I didn't watch the debate last night, but it seems Rubio proved what a dumbass moron he is. And this guy is supposed to be the savior of the GOP.
Everyone in the debate has skin that looks like someone left a porn star's asshole out in the sun for too long. I don't want to get old.
Unrelated, I've been reading about 1920s European politics today and yesterday. It seems like every fucking person wrote a pamphlet about their political beliefs. And if they didn't write one, their political movement had pamphlets and books that were the bees tits.
And I seem to remember early american politics being the same way.
What the hell happened to that? Is that natural to not have these things? Is that perhaps part of the problem? We now just have a bunch of old farts blindly muddeling their way through? That stand for nothing? Just flip flopping their way to the top of the pile? What do we even have now? Bullet lists? And the right has one word "opposite of demo bullet list" ?
It's not just a religious issue. Some people have a moral compass that is functional and says an innocent life is worth more than a guilty one.

Those democrats are old white women that probably never figured out the the party lines flipped
