I would say that it would be good if Trump and Sanders ran as independents, but since you still use the stupid ancient first-past-the-post bullshit, it would be catastrophic for either "side".
Sanders is not going to run as an independent.
If the GOP fucks over Trump in the convention and gives the nomination to Paul Ryan or some shit, he might. He has always said he would not do it as long as the party treats him fairly, and I'm not sure how a neutral observer could see those shenanigans and think it's fair.
I think he would gladly spend a few months running as an independent to get revenge on them.
