It's not even the pc stuff. It's just "the dumb"
When did kids get this stupid? Is there something I'm missing? Like this is just a fad and there us some patient zero wonder dumby?
This is what happens when you spend your life in a bubble. You literally can't process the idea that some people have opinions different from your own.
Ironically the Internet has made this much much worse. It's so easy to go on Twitter or Tumblr or Facebook and surround yourself with ideological brethren. You close yourself from the world and the idea that someone doesn't agree with you on everything is literally Hitler.
I think this used to be more of a thing on the right because of Fox News, 24/7 right wing talk radio, etc, but now it's true of both sides and it's kind of terrifying. Just the existence of Yoshi on this board means I need to think about a different side, see where they are coming from, etc. I fear that these kids don't even have that.
Pretty much. I had a friend of mine ranting about how he couldn't understand how our state legislature (with a Republican majority and a Republican governor) passed what is basically a anti LGBT bill yesterday, and he stated how he doesn't even know anyone who would think or vote that way. He also lives in a college town, in the middle of one of the state's larger cities, which would be a bright blue dot completely surrounded by red on an election map. He rarely goes outside his immediate local area.
That seems to be the way of things. But it isn't just young people. This board gets smaller and smaller for that same reason. A lot of people do not want to argue or be confronted with other ideas. I've watched when I was banned and people just get started on the other lump or thorn. People for whatever reason seek sameness.
It's not even arguing. Just being around and hearing other opinions is a good thing. Even if I roll my eyes at some shit Yoshi says, it's good it's there. If you spend your entire life listening to far right wingnuts or Tumblr liberals, you'll come out a weirdo. It's just how it is. There's a reason why public debates in the town square were a common thing going back to the Greeks.
Eh, the pendalum us just swinging back to puritans.
We think we're so fucking smart but those assholes thought they had it all figured out too.
Just a bunch of assholes shaming people into being like them and going on witch hunts to destroy people.
My loan officer last night was Syrian. We talk about how the only difference between the GOP and IS is their language and tribe. Their values are the same.
